on:“Door Gagan Ki Chhaaon Mein” (1964) was a sensitively produced movie about the travails of a father who has a child who has lost his speech after an accident. When all hopes of his recovery are dashed then the father (played by Kishore Kumar) turns to God for help.
“Door Gagan Ki Chhaaon Mein” (1964) was Kishore Kumar’s home production and it was a labour of love for him. The movie had Kishore Kumar, Supriya Chaudhry, Amit Kumar, Shashikala, Nana Palsikar, Iftikhar, Raj Mehra, Sajjan, Hiralal, Leela Mishra etc in it. Majority of movie watchers were not ready for a movie of such class and sophistication and the movie failed at the box office, much to the disappointed of Kishore Kumar whose previous productions were light hearted comedy movies which were big hits at the box office.
“Door Gagan Ki Chhaon Mein” (1964) had songs which too did not become too popular at that time, but they have ended up as timeless classics nevertheless. As many as six songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the seventh song from the movie.
The initial lines of this song are a Sanskrit Shlok which conveys the message that God’s blessing can give speech to the speechless and legs to the lame.
मूकं करोति वाचालं पङ्गुं लङ्घयते गिरिम्
यत्कृपा तमहं वन्दे परमानन्द माधवम् ॥
Mookam Karoti Vachalam,, Pangum Langhayate Girim.
Yat Krupa Tamaham Vande, Paramanand Madhavam.
The shlok means
I salutate that supreme bliss, Madhav, by whose mercy are the speechless given tongue and the lame made to vanquish mountains.
Kishore Kumar and Amit Kumar hear this bhajan from a distance. They are attracted towards the source of the song and end up in a temple where a priest and other devotees are singing this song.
This song is sung by Manna Dey, Kishore Kumar and chorus. Shailendra is the lyricist. Music is composed by Kishore Kumar.
Lyrics of this song (as well as the shlok) were sent to me by Khyati Bhatt.
