When I saw the lyrics of this song from “Jogan” (1950), I thought that this song was discussed long back, but when I checked the list of songs of “Jogan” (1950) appearing in the blog, this song was missing much to my surprise. Then I realised that the song that I was confusing it with was the song Ae ri main to prem deewaani mera dard na jaane koye from “Naubahaar” (1952).

“Jogan”(1950) was a Ranjit Film Company Production. This movie was made at a time why the studio was on the verge of bankruptcy. This movie, based on a seemingly flimsy looking story line rescued the company. Here is what Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, our beloved inhouse encyclopaedia, has to say about this movie:-

“Jogan” (1950) was a Ranjit Film Company Production. It was directed by Kidar Sharma. This movie was a landmark movie in many respects.
Musically speaking, this movie was a musical blockbuster. As many as ten songs from this movie have discussed in the past and still we are not done with this movie. 🙂

“Jogan” (1950) was a Ranjit Movietone movie which was a big risk taken by Chandulal Shah, the producer, since the theme of the movie as envisaged by him was regarded as a recipe for disaster by leading directors like Nitin Bose and Mahesh Kaul, who refused to have anything to do with the project. Then Kidar Sharma took up the challenge and finished up the project in less than one month. This risky proposition, whose failure would have ruined Chandulal Shah financially had the movie failed, became a box office success.

“Jogan” (1950) was a movie produced by Ranjit Movietone and directed by Kidar Sharma. The story was different and was regarded as a risky proposition by the other leading directors of the time, who on listening to the one line plot (disturbing the sanyas of a jogan) refused to have anything to do with the movie. Then Kidar Sharma himself decided to take up the challenge at the encouragement of Chandulal Shah, the producer, who developed the story of the movie from the one line brief. The fact that the plot of the movie was written by Chandulal Shah was not known for half a century since Chandulal Shah had refused to take the credits.

“Jogan” is a movie which was made in 1950, but the person writing the story of this movie remained unnamed till 1999. It was in 1999 that Kidar Sharma, the director of the movie revealed that the story of “Jogan” (1950) was written by Chandulal Shah, but he declined to take the credit , and as a result, the credits of the movie carried a question mark instead of a name for half a century.
