“Naujawaan”(1966) was directed by Chaand for S S Films, Bombay. This stunt film had Dara Singh, Ajit, Nishi, Helen, Randhawa, Tiwari, Madan Puri, Kundan, Sundar, Randheer, Chaman Puri, Gauri, Neelam, Bela Bose, Madhumati, Ramlal Malik, Veena etc in it.

“Naujawaan”(1966) had five songs in it. Two songs have been covered in the blog in the past. One of them was an Usha Mangeshkar solo song while the other song was a duet song sung by Lata and Usha Mangeshkar.

Here is the third song from “Naujawaan”(1966). This song is a solo song sung by another sister of the above mentioned singers, namely Asha Bhonsle.

This is a lively lilting song. If one is not aware of the details of the song, one may think that this song is an O P Nayyar composition. But we know for sure that O P Nayyar did not use the voice of Lata Mangeshkar in his compositions (Interestingly, O P Nayyar used the voice of Usha Mangeshkar in some of his female duet songs with Asha Bhonsle). So it cannot be an O P Nayyar composition. This is a composition of G S Kohli. Resemblence to O P Nayyar music is because G S Kohli was an assistant of O P Nayyar.

Lyrics are by Anjaan.

What a lively song it is. This song is picturised on Nishi, with Dara Singh and other also visible in the picturisation.

Lyrics

dil kyun dhadak raha hai
yoon beqaraar hoke

yoon bekarar hoke
ruktee naheen hai ab to
zaalim nigaah roke
zaalim nigaah roke
dil kyun dhadak raha hai
yoo beqaraar ho o o ke

naazuk labon pe tadpe
maasoom hansee aise
naazuk labon pe tadpe
maasoom hansee aise
jhokhon mein jhilmilaaye alhad see raag jaise
josheelee kyun ye sharmeelee
hansee hai ya qayaamat hai
dil kyun dhadak raha hai
yoon beqaraar hoke
ruktee naheen hai ab to
zaalim nigaah roke
zaalim nigaah roke ae
dil kyun dhadak raha hai ae
yoon beqaraar ho o o ke

saanson mein kaanptee hai
ik bejubaan tamanna
saanson mein kaanptee hai
ik bejubaan tamanna
bahke hain ham to aise
mushqil hai ab sambhalna
sambhal ae dil sare mehfil
ye tu hee kya ?
dil kyu dhadak raha hai
yoon beqaraar hoke
ruktee naheen hai ab to
zaalim nigaah roke
zaalim nigaah roke ae
dil kyun dhadak raha hai
yoon beqaraar hoke
ruktee naheen hai ab to
zaalim nigaah roke
zaalim nigaah roke ae
dil kyun dhadak raha hai
yoon beqaraar ho o o ke

Missing Films of 1960s – 14

With this post, I return to one of the requests of Arvinder ji that has been pending for some time now. His reminders keep coming to me, and there are more pending requests from him lined up in my inbox.

This song can well be the continuation of the ‘Memory Ticklers’ series. A lilting melody that was often heard on the radio when I used to regularly listen, and then later it seemed to have faded from the memories. Depend on Arvinder ji to recall and remind to dig up such gems to once again be played and listened.

The decade of 1950 to 1960 was a feast of Music for HFM lovers. Talented Music directors like C.Ramchandra, S D Burman, Salil Chaudhari, Hemant Kumar, Naushad, Ravi, Chitragupta etc from the A category gave us everlasting melodies. In this deluge of melodies, even the B and C category composers also gave their best artworks in this period.
