Mukherji family was a very influential family in Bollywood. Brothers Shashdhar Mukherji and Subodh Mukherji were producers of Bollywood movies in 1950s and 1960s. Filmistan studio was co founded by Shashdhar Mukherji. Shashdhar Mukherji’s sons too were well known actors. Most movie followers are familiar with the names of his sons viz Joy Mukherji and Deb Mukherji.

“Nai Umar Ki Nai Fasal”(1965) had Rajeev (who ?) and Tanuja in lead roles. This movie is well known for its epic sad song “caravan guzar gaya gubaar dekhte rahe”.

I have posted one song from “Gambler”(1970) in the past. Somhow I keep confusing among the songs of “Gambler”, “Guide”, “Prem Pujari” etc. All these movies had Dev Anand and Waheeda Rahman in them, if I am not mistaken, and all these movies had music by S D Burman.

One reason why many old songs ( 1970s and earlier) are popular is of course to do with nice music in these songs. Moreover, the music directors ( there were many outstanding music directors at that time) recognised the value of lyrics. And they would wait for lyricists to write their songs.

Few people are aware of this 1964 movie called “Cha Cha Cha”. It had a by now forgotten hero called Chandrashekhar, and Helen, a one dance wonder in most movies, was the heroine of this movie !
