I thought I had already discusssed this song from “Subah Ka Taara” (1954). So I was surprised to get a farmaish for this song. On checking, I realised that I had not posted this song, or for that matter any song from this movie.
I clearly recall discussing this song in the past. So now I realise that I had discussed this song in my other blog while discussing Binaca geetmala, C Ramchandra etc.
Here is this wonderful song from “Subah Ka taara” (1954). This is a duet sung by Talat Mehmood and Lata. It is picturised on Pradeep Kumar and Jashree as a train song. What a joyous song it is. This song can be described as the title song as well as theme song of this movie as well.
Noor Lucknowi is the lyricist and C Ramchandra is the music director. What a timeless classic this song is ! Listening to this song certainly makes one’s day.

Lyrics
gayaa andheraa huaa ujaaraa
gayaa andheraa huaa ujaaraa,
chamkaa chamkaa subah kaa taaraa
gayaa andheraa huaa ujaaraa,
chamkaa chamkaa subah kaa taaraa
toote dil kaa bandhaa sahaaraa,
chamkaa chamkaa subah kaa taaraa
saans khushi ki tan mein aayi
armaanon ne li angdaayi
jaag uthin ummeeden saari
jaag uthi taqdeer hamaari
kahin kisi ne door pukaaraa
chamkaa chamkaa subah kaa taaraa
gayaa andheraa huaa ujaaraa,
chamkaa chamkaa subah kaa taaraa
murjhaayi kali kyaa phir se khilegi
murjhaayi kali kyaa phir se khilegi
khoyi huyi kyaa raahat milegi
kahin ye taaraa toot na jaaye
subah kaa saathi chhoot na jaaye
aankhon mein rah jaaye nazaaraa
chamkaa chamkaa subah kaa taaraa
gayaa andheraa huaa ujaaraa,
chamkaa chamkaa subah kaa taaraa
gayi udaasi raunak chhaayi
raushni ab jeewan mein aayi
hansi khushi kaa chhedo taraanaa
naach uthe man jhoome zamaanaa
samaa suhaanaa pyaaraa pyaaraa
chamkaa chamkaa subah kaa taaraa
gayaa andheraa huaa ujaaraa,
chamkaa chamkaa subah kaa taaraa
gayaa andheraa huaa ujaaraa,
chamkaa chamkaa subah kaa taaraa
Like in any other fields of activities, momentum matters a lot in a blog like this where regular posting of songs is a given. When I am cruising at a rate of six-seven songs in a day, it looks all to simple and comfortable. But often I hit a roadblock, and I find this momentum lost and then the energy needed to get back to the earlier pace takes some doing.

The more one discovers old gems, the more one is amazed at the genius of old masters. C Ramchandra is one such musical genius who has left us with a rich legacy of classy compositions that I am only just beginning to discover.

C Ramchandra had created some very fine songs in “Parchhain” (1952) and quite a few of these songs went on to become all time classics. I have posted one such Lata classic already (“katte hai dukh me ye din”). Here is a Talat Mahmood classic from this movie this time.

I have read a lot about this song, but it is only now, 58 years after this song was composed, that I have finally listened to this song. After listening to it twice, I must say that I am quite impressed.
