Today’s song is from the film Pooja-54. It was a social film made by Verma Films. The producer and director was Bhagwandas Verma and the music was by Shankar Jaikishan. The cast of the film was Bharat Bhushan, Poornima, Shakuntala, Omprakash, Ulhas, Badri Prasad,Heeralal etc etc. The lyricists were Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri. The film had nine songsin it. In around mid-50s, I used to often hear a song ‘chal chal re musaafir chal’ and I liked it. But I had no idea or rather I never ventured to know as to which film this song belonged. It was sometime in early 70s when I came across an used 78 RPM record of this song that I became aware of the film’s name and other details. The film was POOJA (1954) and it was a kind of surprise to me that the film which had Shanker-Jaikishan as music director had become an obscure film. No doubt, this film is yet to make a debut in this blog. Recently, I heard some more songs from this film on the internet. What a treasure of songs the film had.
