“Rampur Ka Laxman”(1972) was one movie that had caught my imagination thanks to its songs played on Radio Ceylon. I did not get to see this movie during its time. I would have dearly loved to watch this movie during its time but that did not happen.

“Rampur Ka Laxman”(1972) was produced by A A Nadiadwala and directed by Manmohan Desai for A G Films Private Limited. The movie had Randhir Kapoor, Rekha, Shathrughan Sinha, Padma Khanna, Bhushan Tiwari, Sulochana Latkar, Faryal, Manmohan Krishna, Raj Mehra, Randhir, Roopesh Kumar, Keshav Rana, Ramesh Deo, Shyam Kumar, Rajan Kapoor, Ramayan Tiwari, Ranjeet, Master Ratan, Master Chickoo, Moolchand, Viju Khote, Kirti Kumar, Ranveer Raj etc in it.

Rampur ka waasi hoon main Laxman mera naam

Bollywood movies of the past were often well structured. there was a hero and he used to sing a song in case he needed to tell something important. There would be a song to convey his love, one song to convey his sadness, one holi song, one rakhi song, one disguise song etc.

Gum hai kisi ke pyaar mein

This movie “Rampur ka Laxman” is by and large forgotten by now. It had many newcomers in it, including Randhir Kapoor, Rekha, Shatrughan Sinha etc.

Movie may have been forgotten by now, but its songs are not. Though the songs were supposed to be timepass songs, many of them became popular not only during their time, but stayed popular with the passage of time as well. It speaks for the quality of these songs and their creators that we still like to listen to these songs.
