“Chandni Chowk” (1954) appears to be a treasure trove for some interesting songs. I have noticed that this movie has lyrics written by the likes of Shailendra, Raja Mehdi Ali Khan, Majrooh Sultanpuri,Vishamitra Adil and Saifuddin Sez. Similarly, this movie has songs sung by Rafi, Mukesh, Lata , Asha Bhonsle, Mubarak Begum,Sapan Chakravarty, Shyam Sundar and even Meena Mangeshkar.

Manna Dey was one singer, who despite his ability, was typecast as a singer for bit actors. There were very few movies where he got to sing for the hero. But whenever he got such a chance, he came up with some superb songs.

The music of “Chitralekha” (1964) was a labour of love for Roshan. He had great hopes that his music and the movie would be great success. But the movie as well as its music failed to win the approval of audience. Roshan was heartbroken.

“Chitralekha” (1964) was a labour of love for Roshan and he had composed some superb songs in this movie. So it was a heart break for him when the movie did not do well at the box office, almost like what happened with Madan Mohan with “Jahan Ara” in the same year.
