“Mujhe Jeene Do” (1963) is a movie with a moving message. It was about the lives of bandits. What lies in store for the bandits who want to get reformed and join the mainstream of society, with same hopes and aspirations for their kids like normal people ? This movie is a moving picturisation on this issue.

There are songs that are best enjoyed as part of the movie, and then there are songs that are best enjoyed in isolation. Here is a song that falls in the later category, viz this song is best enjoyed as a stand alone song. This song is from a movie called “Paalki” (1967) and this story was as retrograde and illogical as any that Hindi movies can subject their followers to.

In Hindi movies, we have teasing songs that are typically sung by male actors. I just realised that if there is a teaser, then there has to a a teased as well. and there are songs sung by teased as well. the teased lady would typically sing a song with words like “chhodo meri kalaayi”, “koi dekh legaa” etc etc.

When I was a kid, I thought that most Hindi movie songs were love songs, and there were few songs of other categories. But now I know better. One can see that the Hindi movie songs fall into several categories. One song itself can belong to several categories.

“Dil Diyaa Dard Liyaa” (1966) was a movie that was just before my time. I had got an opportunity to watch this movie for free a few years later but I passed over that opportunity because the movie,the actors as well as the storyline of this movie were not quite the cup of tea of kids my age. “what is this ? These movies cannot think of anything other than pyaar. There are more to life than pyaar, such as maar dhaad (fights) etc.”- The leader among us pre-teens opined and the rest of us readily agreed and walked off after some time.
