“Dil Ki Raani”(1947) was directed by Mohan Sinha (father of actress Vidya Sinha) and directed by P V Bankar for Amar jyoti pictures film. The movie had Raj Kapoor, Madhubala, Munshi Khanjar, Shyamsunder etc. in it.

In Hindi movies, a female character singing a bhajan in front of the idol of a God used to be a standard scene from 1950s to 1970s. I have always wondered who pioneered this genre of songs. Now I believe that I have got my answer. Having watched a few such songs from the earlier days of Hindi movies, I have now come to the conclusion that Amirbai Karnataki could well be the first singer to sing such bhajans as well as the first actress to enact them on screen.

I was under the impression that lullabies first made their appearance in Hindi movies in 1950s, and that these lullabies have been sung by singers of the golden era (1949-1980). But I just came across a lovely lullaby from the pre golden era.

“Vidya” (1948) must be one of the first movies in which Suraiyya and Dev Anand were paired together. And this movie was a musical blockbuster too.

“Vidya” (1948) had Dev Anand and Suraiyya in lead roles. Suraiyya was the leading singing star of that time and she sang her own songs.
