“Singaar” (1949) is a movie starring Suraiyya, and there are some very nice songs sung by her in this movie.

Wow! What a song this one is. I have been listening to this song for a long time. In my younger days, when I disliked “old” songs, I still subconsciously felt that this song was special. And now that I have no such dislikings, I find that this song is an incredibly melodious song.

I was aware of a movie called “Naatak” (1974), but there was another movie of this name in 1947. “Naatak” (1947) had a very young Suraiyya in lead role. So she obviously sang her own songs in this movie.

Few people have any idea that there was a movie called “Fashion” (1957). One does not expect much from the songs of a movie with such a name.

Suraiyya, who ruled the roost as am actor-singer gradually ran out of steam in 1950s. The fact that she would sing only for herself meant that as her demand as an actress fell, she stopped getting singing offers as well.

There have been several movies called “Aarzoo”. There was one “Aarzoo” in 1966 where Shankar Jaikishan’s hit music had helped the movie become a big box office success. When one talks of a movie called “Pardes”, one may be reminded of a recent movie (recent by the standards of this blog) that was released in 1997. But the first movie of this name was released as far back as in 1950.

“Dharti” (1970) was one of the last movies in which both Rajendra Kumar and Waheeda Rehman were seen in lead roles. By this time both had begun to show their ages and were soon upstaged by younger and fresher faces.
