I have been listening to this song right from my childhood. Not just me, every Indian, young or old, gets a goosebump every time he/ she listens to it.

On the occasion of 15th August, 2008, which is the 61st independence day of India, here is this immortal song sung by Rafi. Jai Hind.

Song- Jahan daal daal par sone ki chidiya karti hai basera ( Sikandar e Azam) (1965) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics- Rajinder Krishan, MD- Hansraj Bahl

Lyrics

Aaaaa

Gurur Bramha, gurur Vishnu, gurur devo Maheshwarah
Gurur sakshaat para Bramha tasmaayev sri Gurudev namah

jahaan daal daal par
sone ki chidiyaan karti hain basera
wo Bhaarat desh hai mera
wo Bhaarat desh hai mera
jahaan daal daal par
sone ki chidiyaan karti hain baseraa
wo Bhaarat desh hai mera
wo Bhaarat desh hai mera

jahaan saty, ahinsaa aur dharm ka
pag-pag lagtaa deraa
wo Bhaarat desh hai mera
wo Bhaarat desh hai mera
Jai Bharti Jai Bharti
Jai Bharti Jai Bharti

Aaaa
ye dharti wo jahaan Rishhi muni
japte Prabhu naam ki maalaa
Hari Om Hari Om Hari Om Hari Om
jahaan har baalak ek Mohan hai
aur Raadhaa ek ek baalaa
aur Raadhaa ek ek baalaa
jahaan sooraj sabse pahle aa kar
daale apnaa pheraa
wo Bhaarat desh hai meraa
wo Bhaarat desh hai meraa

Jahan Ganga Jamuna Krishna aur Kaveri bahti jaaye
Jahan Uttar Dakshin Poorab Paschim ko amrit pilwaaye
ye amrit pilwaye
kahin ye phal aur phool ugaaye
kesar kahin bikhera
wo Bhaarat desh hai meraa
wo Bhaarat desh hai meraa

albelon ki is dharti ke
tyohaar bhi hain albele
kahin deewaali ki jagmag hai
holi ke kahin mele
kahin deewaali ki jagmag hai
holi ke kahin mele
holi ke kahin mele
jahaan raag rang aur hansi khushi kaa
chaaro aur hai gheraa
wo Bhaarat desh hai meraa
wo Bhaarat desh hai meraa

jahaan daal daal par
sone ki chidiyaan karati hai basera
wo Bhaarat desh hai mera
wo Bhaarat desh hai mera

jahaan aasmaan se baate karte
mandir aur shivaale
kisi nagar me kisi dwaar par
koi na taalaa daale
koi na taalaa daale
aur prem ki bansi jahaan bajaataa
aaye shaam saweraa
wo Bhaarat desh hai meraa
wo Bhaarat desh hai meraa
jahaan saty, ahinsaa aur dharm kaa
pag pag lagtaa deraa
wo Bhaarat desh hai meraa
wo Bhaarat desh hai meraa
Jai Bharti Jai Bharti
Jai Bharti Jai Bharti

Dear friends,

One of the greatest patriotic songs from Hindi Movie. First I saw this songs in Chitrahaar (Doordarshan) during my Engineering days way back late 80s.

As I cannot understand Hindi, can some one translate this song in to English/Kannada, so that I can easily understand this greatest patriotic song.

This is a lavishly picturised song which is played every Independence day and Republic Day in our country. This is one of the greatest patriotic numbers and will be played till this country remains as India and till the last Indian breathes his or her last on Mother Earth.

This is a great song. But almost nothing in the world is perfect. To my ears the word “bramha” pronounced twice in the beginning leaves a jarring note. I am not a Sanskrit scholar and more knowledgeable readers of these pages may correct me, but I think the word should have been pronounced “brahma”.
