Young kids growing up in India learn as much of their vocabulary from family members and friends as from Bollywood movies and songs. I learnt the meaning of “ladki pasand karna” for the first time when I heard my mother advising her brother (mama for me) to get married ( “Shaadi kar lo. Koi ladki pasand kar lo”).
As if on cue, this song ” maine ek ladki pasand kar li” started blaring on loudspeakers after a few days. And thanks to my newfound knowledge ( gained by overhearing my mother), I knew the meaning of the phrase “ladki pasand kar li”.
No wonder, this song became my favourite. Of course, I only heard the song. I never saw the movie, and in fact I never even knew the name of the movie.
Now, after some 38 years, I know that the movie was “Devi”, and that this song was 11th in Binaca geetmala final of 1970. I have just unearthed the video of this song too, and I for the first time watched the video of this song too. Now I know that this movie was picturised on Sanjeev Kumar and Nutan.
Here is this song, a childhood favourite of mine from 1970. Rafi has sung this song with such gusto and enthusiasm,which was his hallmark those days. Anand Bakshi as lyricist and Laxmikant Pyarelal as music director are also the collaborator in this humdinger of a song.

It was a very nicely sung song. Taking a normal situation and belting a popular song out of that, it is quite an achievement.

The starting tune of this song, seems to be inspired from ‘Yeh gora gora mukhda ye kala kala til’ from GANGU (1962). Check it out :

yesterday I was playing some remix songs and suddenly I listen an English version of this song but unfortunately I forgot to see the name of the song so any of you knew any thing about this songs then plz reply to this comment

Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Hey Atul, very nice to see this song here…I used to love this song too…timepass song…I actually heard it for the first time when I saw the movie as a very young boy (I have a few memories of some scenes..I think the villain is Madan Puri and there is a swamp scene in the end…vague memories).
This is just the type of song I would have put out there as “not all that famous” but definitely worth making popular amongst today’s generation.
See, there are other ways than just “remixes” to do this. I like your way of doing it.
