I have listened to this song many a times, and liked it as well.
Now, I finally watched the picturisation of the song. And it was a big let down. Of course, I am saying all that with full benefit of hindsight. I was hoping that the picturisation would show the hero dancing vigorously, Shammi Kapoor style. Though the hero of this movie is Vishwajeet, who very much copied Shammi Kapoor, but dancing Shammi style was just too much for Vishwajeet. He is seen dancing lamely holding a guitar like a bazooka. Now Shammi Kapoor or even Joy Mukerjee could have carried this scene with aplomb, but our hero of this movie just dd not have the screen presence to do so.
The music direction is that of O P Nayyar, and he had obvously planned this song with Rafi in mind, but he had disagreement with Rafi those days so he got this song recorded by Mahendra Kapoor. But just like Vishwajeet cannot take the place of Shammi Kapoor, Mahendra Kapoor cannot take the place of Rafi. Though one should not make comparisons, such comparisons do get made considering the similarities in singing style and picturisation.
So this is a song that is good, but we all know that this song could have been much better sung and picturised with better personnel.

Thanks, Atul, for this song, which has always been one of my favorite songs, even if it is not a Rafi song nor a Shammi Kapoor song, either. Mahendra Kapoor’s voice is so dreamy and soft and takes us to another level altogether.
