Duniya kare sawaal to ham kya jawaab dein

on:“Bahu Begum” was one of the last movies in which Roshan gave music. And Roshan was at the peak of his prowess at that time.
One song from this movie has already appeared in this blog. Here is another song viz. “duniya kare sawaal to ham kya jawaab dein”. The song is sung by Lata.
The words of Sahir appear so deceptively simple and unremarkable, but they are very well crafted words. When they combine with the voice of Lata and the music of Roshan, the effect is magical. And this magic is to be savoured by listening to it in the right ambience, viz in solitude of your home. I do not think this is a song that can be savoured from a blaring loudspeaker, which was one of the main way of listening to movie songs in those days when this song was created.
It is such a nice song to listen to.This is a song that can perhaps be called a chayageet category song as well, considering that the feelings expressed in this song are best expressed at Chaayageet time viz at night.
Song-Duniya kare sawaal to ham kya jawaab dein(Bahu Begum)(1967) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD- Roshan
Lyrics
duniyaa kare sawaal to ham kyaa jawaab dein
tumko na ho khayaal to ham kyaa jawaab dein
duniyaa kare sawaal …
poochhe koyi ke dil ko kahaan chhod aaye hain
poochhe koyi ke dil ko kahaan chhod aaye hain
kis kis se apnaa rishtaa-e-jaan tod aaye hain
mushkil hai arz-e-haal
mushkil hai arz-e-haal to ham kyaa jawaab dein
tumko na ho khayaal to ham kyaa jawaab dein
duniyaa kare sawaal
poochhe koyi ke dard-e-wafaa kaun de gayaa
poochhe koyi ke dard-e-wafaa kaun de gayaa
raaton ko jaagne ki sazaa kaun de gayaa
kahne se ho malaal
kahne se ho malaal to ham kyaa jawaab dein
tumko na ho khayaal to ham kyaa jawaab dein
duniyaa kare sawaal to ham kyaa jawaab dein

Lovely song, Atul.
Very well sung by Lata.
And music is of course by one of my favourite composers, Roshan.
You can keep listening to this song and just get lost in it.

This movie has a really awesome song/kawwali- “Aise mein tujh ko dhoondh ke…..’. Meena Kumari looks very beautiful in that song and her acting shows why she was so famous for sad scenes.

Atul, you are a genius (and a patient one!) to dig out one gem after another….
