Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand were the three biggest male stars of Bollywood movies for nearly two decades. Considering that song and dance plays such important roles in Bollywood movies, including the movies in which these actors acted, it is interesting to note that Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand successfully dodged dancing in their movies.

I am aware of two movies called “College Girl”. One was a movie of early 1960s featuring Shammi Kapoor. The other was a movie of late 1970s featuring Sachin. Though both these movies are forgotten, both of them had some nice songs in them.

In Shammi Kapoor movies, it is Shammi Kapoor who normally gives ladies a hard time, but in this song, it is Shammi Kapoor who finds himself at the receiving end. This is a swimming pool song, and Shammi Kapoor finds himself inside the pool, and he is seen trying to stay afloat.

I have seen many mujra songs in Bollywood movies, and this song is a mujra song, but with a difference. Mujra songs tend to be depressing because the female dancer performing mujra tends to be wallowing in self pity. But this song is different.

Husnlal Bhagatram were perhaps the first music directors who formed a team and composed music by their combined names. Later on, their lead was taken by Shankar Jaikishan, and then by Kalyanji Anandji, Laxmikant Pyarelal etc. Incidentally, Bhagatram’s brother, called Pt Amarnath, was a music director too.

When I decide to post a song, most of my time is taken to get the lyrics right. There are some people who inform me that one can get lyrics of the songs on internet. Like most well meaning (and uninformed and unsolicited) advises, this information is not backed by facts.

In old Bollywood movies, most leading actors would be shown seated on a grand piano and singing a song. Now it is not possible to sing and play a grand piano simultaneously, but when you are lip syncingto some one else’s voice and music is someone else’s creation, as are the lyrics,then nothing is impossible in Bollywood.
