Satyam Shivam Sundaram

This title song of “Satyam Shivam Sundaram” has at least two versions. The song itself is quite popular to this day. Its picturisation is another matter. The critics those days panned Raj Kapoor for using this movie to show Zeenat Aman’s body at every opportunity, which in the view of the critics was against the Indian ethos.
This view of the critics indeed influenced those who read these reviews and I was one of them. As a result I have not watched this movie. Not just that, I did not like the songs either. On the other hand, those who were not much into reading reviews, not only watched the movies, they liked the songs as well. The songs indeed became popular.
Here is this title song from “Satyam Shivam Sundaram” (1978). It is sung by Lata and picturised on Zeenat Aman. Pt Narendra Sharma is the lyricist and Laxmikant Pyarelal composed the music.

I loved the songs, this one in particular, long long before I started watching Bollywood. Perhaps it is because I love our Indian village scenes and what can be more Indian than an early morning visit to a Shiv temple. The lyrics are great too. This song is still one of my favorites.

I just love this song, minus the video part. Even that wouldn’t be too bad, but for Raj Kapoor focusing on Zeenat’s body. I remember reading an article where it was mentioned that this song was being played in Shirdi, and Raj Kapoor was pleased about it. What is even more surprising is the fact that another song from this movie, “Yashomati maiya se maage Nandlala …” is actually being sung as a bhajan and is one of the regular bhajans in our local temple! I thought it was more about Radha being gori and Kanhaiya being dark skinned than about religion!
Thanks for the song, Atul!

There is nothing wrong with filiming of the song at all. Zinat aman has not exposed her body at all. if this is exposure than what is in the carvings of old caves in Ajanta/Ellora and Sun temples in Orissa.Society and people in general in those old days saw beauty in such exposures and had the courage to carve such statues. It is our eyes which is dirty and does not experience the art.
Raj Kapoor was admired for his deep thinking and full marks to him for this song.
For first time the RK Banner had a change in music directors. Instead of usual Shanker Jaikishen it was Laxmikant Pyarelal which gives great credit to the new duos. No doubt from Barsat in 1948 to Mera Naan Joker, there was not a single FLOP music wise under Shanker Jaikishen which proves their Genius.

Yes Atul, how can I forget Bobby, Hum tum ek karre mein bandh ho aur chabi kho jaye.
But still I would say that from Barsat to Mere Naam joker, not a single RK film was folp, music wise and you have mentioned in past regarding Madan Mohan , one movie had 8 songs vewr hit.
I can say that every song of Shanker Jaikishen was a hit in every film.
Rememer talking to Bhagwandas Verma of Verma Films who produced films like Parbat, Aurat, Badal,Pooja to mention some and all were a musical hit by Shanker Jaikishen.
By the do you have any clips of Parbat or Pooja songs. Lead roles in Parbat were Prem Nath,Nutan and Purnima, where as Pooja had Bharat Bhushan and Purnima.
I would love to see the clips of the movies.
