“Shama Parwaana” (1954) was a movie that had Suraiyya and Shammi Kapoor in lead roles. This movie had some nice songs that have been largely forgotten by now.

I have posted a few well known songs from “Aan Milo Sajna”(1970). There are some “lesser known ” songs in this movie. By “lesser known”, what I mean is that I was not aware about these songs being part of “Aan Milo Sajna” when everyone else did.

“Lahore” (1949) is a love story that begins at Lahore in pre- independence days.Nargis and Karan Dewan falling in love there. Then independence leads to partition and violence. They are separated in the aftermath of partition. The two finally reunite at Delhi when a Muslim protects Nargis brings her to Delhi.That way, the story of “Lahore” is somewhat similar to the story of “Chhaliya” (1959).

“Waapas”(1969) is a movie that had unknown actors in it and the movie sank without a trace. Those were the days when the Indian movie audience were too immature and simplistic in their choices and any movie even slightly off the mainstream track tended to flounder badly.

In movies, only the young and beautiful (read hero and heroine) are seen romancing, which to my mind is not fair. even old and ugly people also have the right to romance. So I always rejoice when villains, comedians and bit actors are shown romancing in movie songs.

One interesting genre of Bollywood songs is the one kind where the leading man/ leading lady reach the villain’s hideout and keep him amused by singing and dancing. The villains must be severely entertainment starved, seeing how eager they are in watching the song and dance performance. and this allows the colleagues of the dancing persons to enter the den unnoticed. 😉
