Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Aaj se pahle aaj se jyaadaa khushi aaj tak nahin mili

Posted on: July 26, 2010

I thought that I had posted this song earlier, but I was wrong. I had posted other songs from this movie but not this one.

This song is “Aaj se pahle aaj se jyaadaa khushi aaj tak nahin mili”. This song is a fantastic song. The voice of Yesudas is so sweet to listen to.

This song is picturised as a “Jeep” song on Amol Palekar, Zarina Wahab, Vijayendra Ghatge and Master Raju. And it is an interesting observation to make that Master Raju (then a small kid under five years of age) was the seniormost Hindi movie actor among the all four ! The other three were making their Hindi movie debut in this movie !

This song from “Chitchor” (1976) is written by Ravindra Jain and he is the music director as well. This is a song that is sung beautifully and picturised just as well. In fact, most songs of Ravindra Jain that he created for Rajshree Productions movies are like this.

Here is this lovely song from “Chitchor” (1976) that is bound to cheer you up for the whole day.

Song-Aaj se pahle aaj se jyaadaa khushi aaj tak nahin mili (Chitchor) (1976) Singer-Yesudas, Lyrics-Ravindra Jain, MD-Ravindra Jain

Lyrics

aaj se pahle
aaj se zyaadaa
aaj se pahle
aaj se zyaadaa
khushi aaj tak nahin mili
itni suhaani aisi meethi
itni suhaani aisi meethi
ghadi aaj tak nahin mili
aaj se pahle

is ko sanjog kahen yaa
qismat kaa lekhaa
hum jo achaanak mile hain
ho
is ko sanjog kahen yaa
qismat kaa lekhaa
hum jo achaanak mile hain
man chaahe saathi paakar
ham sab ke chehre
dekho to kaise khile hain
ho ho
taqdeeron ko
jod de aisi
taqdeeron ko
jod de aisi
kadi aaj tak nahin mili
aaj se pahle

sapnaa ho jaaye pooraa,
jo hamne dekhaa
ye mere dil ki duaa hai
ho
sapnaa ho jaaye pooraa,
jo hamne dekhaa
ye mere dil ki duaa hai
ye pal jo beet rahe hain
in ke nashe mein
dil meraa gaane lagaa hai
ho ho o
isi khushi ko dhoondh rahe the
isi khushi ko dhoondh rahe the
yahi aaj tak nahin mili
aaj se pahle

hey atul
“Rajnigandha”(1974) was the debut for Amol Palekar. and Zarina Wahab is a Dev Anand discovery making a debut in “Ishq Ishq Ishq” (1974) but u r right in the fact Master Raju was still the senior most in this group considering he was there in “Parichay” made by Gulzar and we r unable to trace out his debut movie
hey and by the way have u uploaded the songs from the movies i ve mentioned here. even these had some gr8 songs

Somehow I also had this idea that this song was already posted.
I love this song. Lots of memories.

When we were in school, in our school-leaving party, one of my classmates went up to the stage – and, looking at the teachers, sang “aaj se pehle aaj se zyaada, khushi aaj tak nahin mili”. 🙂

Am sure he must be missing school days now. When you are in school, you cannot wait to “grow up”, when you are a “grown up” (well, at least technically), you miss your school days. Yehi kissa purana hai…

I’ve loved this song too and the other Chit chor songs–Yesudas got the filmfare award for “gori tera gaon”. Yesudas also does playback in Alaap.

Amol Palekar was known for at least two films before Chitchor came out in 1976 (रजनीगंधा 1974 and छोटीसी बात 1975).

An important observation was missed about the present song (Aaj se pahle).

Vijayndra Ghatge invites Zarina Wahab for a picknic. Her parents are trying to arrange wedding between them. Vijayendra is Amol Palekar’s boss and he invites Amol and master Raju (Zarina’s neighbour) to go along. Amol has heard the news about the possible wedding and he thinks that he is going to be the groom. Vijayendra is driving, asks Amol to sing a song and Amol sings this cheerful song (first two Antaras).

During the picknic, Amol learns that his boss will the groom. On the return trip, Amol is driving and the boss asks him to continue the song. The last Antara is somewhat sad.

The movie has a surprisingly happy ending. Just a simple story, no villains no fighting, no dances.

One minor comment and on addition.
The film was released in 1976, Master Raju was born in 1967 (15 August). He was about 8 years old (not five) in the movie.

There is a second part to the song. The first part above is a happy one, the second part (short) is sad.

In the first part, Amol Palekar (Vinod), Zarina Wahab (Geeta), Vijayendra Ghatge (Suneel – Vinod’s boss) and Master Raju are going for a picnic (Vinod driving). Suneel asks Vinod to sing and he sings the happy version.
Vinod and Geeta are in love and hope to get married. During the picnic, Vinod finds out that Suneel is planning to marry Geeta. On the return trip,
Vinod is driving and Suneel asks him to sing again – he sings the sad version. (There may be ‘typos’)

In my previous comment, in addition to the new lyrics, I repeated the story I had mentioned sometime back.
