#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #

# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 126 # Tumhaari Kasam-1978
——————————————-—————————

Most of us are familiar with this lovely song ‘ham dono milke kaaghaz pe dil ke chitthi likhenge, jawaab aayegaa’ from the movie ‘Tumhaari Kasam-1978’. This song used to be played frequently on radio when I was growing up(going by the release date of the movie I was just above ten years of age then).

I like this song very much and so when I prepared my list of songs that bring back memories this was by default included in my list. But what about other songs from this movie? I think they were not notable songs and were easily forgotten?

I was not aware about the other songs from this movie until this article when I looked upon to present a song from this movie on the blog.

‘Tumhaari Kasam-1978’ had made its debut on the blog well in the initial days of the blog i.e., on 04.10.2008.
So, today after a gap of ’12 years,05 months, and twenty-one days (‘4555’ days – including 24.03.2021) we are adding the second song of this movie. And I have deliberately chosen a lesser-known song from this movie sung by Preeti Sagar and lip synced on screen by Master Rajoo.

“Tumhaari Kasam-1978” was directed by Ravi Chopra for ‘Associated Films & Finance Corporation’. It was produced by C.V.K. Shastry.

This movie had Jeetendra, Navin Nischol, Moushumi Chatterjee, Padmini Kapila, Master Rajoo, Vimal Ahuja, Jagdish Raj, Prem Sagar, Achala Sachdev, Narbada Shankar, Lina Das, Ranjeet Sood, Anand Balraj, R.S. Chopra, Master Shaka and others. Komila Virk, Alka, Roopesh Kumar and Pradeep Kumar make special appearance in this movie.

Story of this movie was written by Tikam. Screenplay and dialogues of this movie were written by Kamleshwar.
Pran Mehra was the Chief Editor for this movie and Editing was done by S.B. Mane with Pradeep Mehra as his assistant.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 09.03.1978.

This movie had four songs (including one two-part song) written by Anand Bakshi. Music was composed by Rajesh Roshan.

Lata Mangeshkar, Mukesh, Asha Bhonsle, Preeti Sagar and Kishore Kumar give their voices to the songs in this movie.

here is a brief about this movie taken from ‘Wikipedia’;

Vidya (Moushumi Chatterjee) and Raja (Raju Shrestha) live in poverty. They get separated due to certain circumstances. Vidya starts working at Anand’s (Jeetendra) house as a maid. Raja is forced to beg for a local gang. While Vidya is attending to her chores, the alcoholic, Anand, tries to molest her. She escapes but is unfortunately hit by a speeding vehicle driven by Sunil Verma (Navin Nischol). This accident makes her visually impaired. The guilt-ridden Anand wants to apologize to Vidya. Will she accept the apology? Will Vidya reunite with her brother?

here is the list of songs of this movie as appearing in HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980);

S.No. Song Title Singer/s Posted On
01 Ye naa hogaa, nahin hoga hoga…ham donon milke kaaghaz pe dil ke Asha Bhonsle, Mukesh 04.10.2008
02 Mera naam Raaja, main bheekh maangu kaise Preeti Sagar Being presented today
03 Hmm, zu zu … main husn ka hoon deewaanaa Kishore Kumar
04 Aye mast hawaa ye to bataa kis waqt yahaan Lata Mangeshkar
05 Ae ladki pyaar karegi, tu mera aitbaar karegi

(in two parts) Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar
*HFGK included the ‘title music track’ of this movie as the sixth soundtrack*

I have not watched this movie and only thing I associate this movie name is its ‘Asha-Mukesh’ duet so far. Also, I think this movie was not successful on the box office.

I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs.

Let us now listen to today’s song which also has the ‘signature touch’ of Rajesh Roshan. As mentioned above Master Rajoo is lip-syncing for Preeti Sagar’s voice and also seen in the picturization of the song are Anand Balraj, Moushumi Chatterjee and many others.

Jai Sri Krishna.
Jai Govinda Jai Gopala.

The accompanying song is from Vinod Doshi presented 1983 release ‘Nastik’ which was directed by Pramod Chakravarthy. It starred Hema Malini, Nalini Jaywant, Reeta Bhadhuri, Sarika, Amitabh Bachchan, Pran, Amjad Khan, Deven Verma, Madan Puri, Bharat Bhushan, Lalitha Pawar, Jayshree T, Ratanmala, Praveen Paul, Kamal Kapoor, Shammi, Bhagwan, Yusuf Khan, Kamran, Viju Khote, Azaad, Pehalwan, Julian, Jaswant, Habib, Bob Christo, Daljeet, Tom Alter, Jezebel, Ranveer Raj, Darshan, Sehgal, Sunder Taneja, Umesh Khanna, Mehar Singh, Manik, Vaman, Master Raju, Baby Pinky, and Master Rajesh (young landlord grows up to be Amjad Khan).

It was basically an action-drama showcasing Amitabh as a young man (Shankar) who is outraged when his father is killed by the village landlord’s son Tiger (Amjad Khan) who also separates him from his mother and sister. He becomes an atheist – Nastik, and vows revenge on Tiger. Enroute to this destination of his, he encounters two small time crooks in Hema Malini and Pran. Like any masala movie the separated family members rediscover each other, Pran’s daughter regains consciousness to identify the person who tried to rape and kill her. So now Pran and Amitabh join forces and the family reunites in the climax at their village and the wrong doer is brought to book.

This movie had eight songs one of which is there on the blog. Today on the occasion of Sri Krishnashtami or Janmashtami, I present this bhajan, which appears twice in the movie. The movie opens with this bhajan as it is Shri Krishna Jayanti in the movie too. The first part is in the voices of Alka Yagnik and Sadhana Sargam. The bhajan comes again at the climax when Amitabh Bachchan has to deal with an almost dying sister – Reeta Bhadhuri and recollects the bhajan that he had sung with his father, sister etc in his childhood. The second version is in the voices of Mahendra Kapoor and Manhar Udhas (for Bharat Bhushan, Amitabh does not lip sync).

Blog Day : 3598 Post No. : 14361

Atul ji, in many of his posts presenting Kishore Kumar songs from the eighties has mentioned this, that though the golden era of music was over by the beginning of eighties, still many gem songs also happened to be created in the decade of eighties, and particularly in case of Kishore Kumar songs. And one of the reasons for this may be because Kishore Kumar’s peak period started in 1970 and lasted till his death in 1987.

I am presenting one such song today which is from the 1984 movie ‘Farishta’. Movies by this name have also been released in earlier decades, notably in 1958 and 1968, we had movies with the same title.

This film was Pran Saab’s presentation for his home production Sikand Films (which I was not aware of till writing of this post). It is directed by Sunil Sikand (Pran Saab’s son), who was also the producer and story writer of this movie. He also co-authored the screenplay with Tapan Chakravarty.

The cast of actors includes Ashok Kumar, Kanwaljeet Singh, Master Raju, Ambika Shourie, Danny and Pran. Bharat Bhushan, Azaad and Master Rajiv Bhatia also have supporting roles in this movie. Smita Patil makes a special appearance in this movie. The movie introduced – Shera – a wonder dog in this movie.

(Other credits: Sudesh Iyer was the Chief Assistant Director; David Dhawan was the editor; of this movie; Gyandev Agnihotri wrote the scenario; and the dialogues were written by Pradeep Roy Choudhary. It was passed by Censor Board on 13.10.1983.).

Lyrics for this movie are written by Anand Bakshi and the music is composed by RD Burman. Kishore Kumar, Amit Kumar, Suresh Wadkar, Anuradha Paudwal and Master Vivek Bajaj gave their voices to the songs in this movie.

Let us now enjoy today’s song sung by Kishore Kumar which is performed on screen by Pran Saab. Master Raju and others can be seen in the picturization of this song. With this song the movie ‘Farishta’ makes its debut on the blog today.

Song – Zamaane Mein Koi Hamaara Nahin (Farishta) (1983) Singer – Kishore Kumar, Lyrics – Anand Bakshi, MD – RD Burman

Lyrics

zamaane mein koi
hamaara nahin
kisi ka bhi hum ko
sahaara nahin

zamaane mein koi

zamaane mein koi
hamaara nahin ee
kisi ka bhi hum ko
sahaara nahin

naseebon ke kaale
savere to hain
garibon ke ghar mein
andhere to hain
naseebon ke kaale
savere to hain
garibon ke ghar mein
andhere to hain
koi chaand koy sitaaraa nahin
kisi ka bhi hamko
sahaara nahin

sabhi ke liye ek
duniya hai ye
hamaare liye gham ka
dariya hai ye

sabhi ke liye ek
duniya hai ye
hamaare liye gham ka
dariya hai ye
bhanwar hi bhanwar hai ye
kinaara nahin
kisi ka bhi hamko
sahaara nahin

kahin se kisi ne na
awaaz di
rahe chup khuda aur
bhagwaan bhi
kahin se kisi ne na
awaaz di
rahe chup khuda aur
bhagwaan bhi
bhagwaan bhi
kisey hum ne ja kar
pukaara nahin
kisi ka bhi hamko
sahaara nahin
sahaaraa nahin
sahaara nahin

Yesterday, 13th August was the birthday of Vijayantimala, as she turns 81.

For this celebration, here is a wonderful song performed by her, from the film ‘Phoolon Ki Sej’ (1964). The film is from the banner of Anjali Pictures of Madras, and is produced by Adi Narayan Rao. The film is directed by Inder Raj Anand. The songs in this film are written by Hasrat Jaipuri, and the music is by Adi Narayan Rao. Today (7 august 2017) is the festival of Raakhi aka rakshabandhan. This festival is being celebrated from time immemorial, may be for more than two thousand years or so. Some interesting tales regarding this festival are mentioned in various sources. It would see that amulets were tied by women on men (not necessarily their brothers) for mens’ protection in ancient times. It was later that this practice took the present day form of sisters tying it on brothers’ wrist.

Mukesh and his Composers – 3
———————————
The off-screen romance between Dev Anand and Suraiyya was well known. On-screen, if there was any song which symbolized the relationship it was this romantic duet from Vidya 1948 sung by Mukesh and Suraiyya.

Hold on. Mukesh giving playback for Dev Anand?. Well, yes, there were 3 occasions in which this rarity occurred. A solo and a duet in Vidya and a duet in Shair with Lata under Ghulam Mohammed.

Today (5 september) is an important day in India for a non musical reason too. It is the birthday of Dr. Sarwapalli Radhakrishnan (5 september 1888 – 17 april 1975), who was India’s second president and prior to that he had made his mark as an eminent scholar and philosopher. He was knighted by Britain in 1931 and he was accorded “Bharat Ratna”, India’s highest civilian honour in 1954. In honour of Dr Radhakrishnan as a scholar, this day is celebrated in India as teacher’s day.
