When one thinks on the movie “Modern Girl” (1961), one thinks of the song Ye mausam rangeen samaan. This song is a very popular Mukesh song,and I associate this song with this movie whenever I hear the name of this movie.
Those were the days of record players and people who could afford record players and record must have certainly bought the record of this song. On the reverse side of this record, there used to be a Rafi song “nazar uthne se pahle hi jhukaa leti to kyaa thaa”. For some reason, this song failed to take off. Listening to this song, one can quickly realise that this song is a gem on its own merit.
Here is this forgotten gem from “Modern Girl” (1961). This song is a background song. The song is picturised on a lady who by the standards of the time had sinned and therefore brought shame on her and on her family. This background song in fact is severely censuring her for her moral misconduct. That is why I call this song a “Moral police” song.
Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist and Ravi is the music director.
Any idea who is the lady on whom this song is picturised ? Saeeda Khan,Nalini Chonkar and Smriti Biswas were the three main actresses in this movie. Is she one of them, or perhaps none of the above, as they say in multiple choice questions ?
