Do sitaaron ka zameen par hai milan aaj ki raat

Posted on: August 13, 2010

This song from “Kohinoor”(1960) is an ultimate “Chhaayaageet” song which is my way of saying that this romantic song is ideal for listening to at late night. And indeed many listeners may have listened to this song in the late night “Vividh Bharati” programme of this name.

This song is a duet sung by Rafi and Lata and it is picturised on Dilip Kumar and Meena Kumari. Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist and Naushad is the music director.

This song is an iconic song for as long as I remember.

When I checked up the Binaca Geetamala performance of this song, I found that this song was 24th in Binaca geetmala finals of 1961. This song has gone on to become more popular with passage of time.

Farmaish for this song was given by Lalitha.

aaaa aaaa

do sitaaron kaa zameen par hai milan aaj ki raat
do sitaaron kaa zameen par hai milan aaj ki raat
muskuraataa hai ummeedon kaa chaman aaj ki raat
aaa
rang laayi hai mere dil ki lagan aaj ki raat
saari duniyaa nazar aati hai dulhan aaj ki raat
aaa
do sitaaron kaa zameen par hai milan aaj ki raat
aaj ki raat

aaa aaa

husn waale teri duniyaa mein koyi aayaa hai
tere deedaar ki hasrat bhi koyi laayaa hai
tod de tod de parde kaa chalan aaj ki raat
muskuraataa hai ummeedon kaa chaman aaj ki raat
aaa
do sitaaron kaa zameen par hai milan aaj ki raat
aaj ki raat

aaa aaa
jin se milne ki tamannaa thi wo hi aate hain
chaand taare meri raahon mein bichhe jaate hain
choomtaa hai tere kadmon ko gagan aaj ki raat
saari duniyaa nazar aati hai dulhan aaj ki raat
aaa
do sitaaron kaa zameen par hai milan aaj ki raat
aaj ki raat

That year had many musical blockbusters

Sasural, Jis desh mein Ganga behti hai, Hum Dono, Nazarana, Gharana, Aas Ka Panchhi, Mughal-E-Azam, Ganga Jamuna etc.

And, as per your “Binaca Geetmala” blog, it was 21 (not 24).

Given that “ek wo bhi diwali thi” failed to make it in the annual list, I would say 21 position was very good standing for that year. Also, even “Ganga Jamuna” had only one song “do hanson ka joda” in the list (other were Nain lad jayin, dhoondo dhoondo re saajna, insaaf ki dagar pe bachchon ).
