“Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiyaa” (1966) is a movie that is full of sensational songs but these songs were criminally wasted thanks to the boring and painful plot. Even leaving the brain behind (recommended for watching Hindi movies) does not work. One can enjoy these songs only when the characters on whom the song is picturised enjoy it, seeing that it is a romantic song. But the storyline ensures that Nutan is in no position to enjoy Dharmendra’s advances. She is not what Dharmendra thinks she is, rather she is a look alike and wife of Dharmendra’s best friend-Rehman) to boot. To make matters worse, Dharmendra wooing her has Rehman’s tacit approval too.
No wonder such a fantastic song cannot be enjoyed by the lsteners, if they have seen the picturisation. The only way to enjoy this song is if it is treated as a separate enity having no relatio to the movie. But that is easier said than done. As long as I had not watched the movie, this song sounded such a fantastic song to listen to. Not any longer. What a waste of a great great song.
This song is sung by Rafi. G L Rawal is the lyricist and Sonik Omi composed this superb song.
All the songs in this movie are superb. And considering that it was the debut movie of Sonik Omi as music directors, that was quite an achievement. Too bad that this debut came in a movie like this.
of course, it is not the mistake of songs like this that they beclong to this movie. The songs of this movie are better heard than watched, that too when the song is picturised on beautiful people. But then the storyline of this movie is like that.

Song-Lo chehra surkh sharaab huaa (Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiyaa) (1966) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-G L Rawal, MD-Sonik Omi
Lyrics
lo chehraa
surkh sharaab huaa haay
aankhon ne saagar chhalkaayaa
lo chehraa surkh sharaab huaa
aankhon ne saagar chhalkaayaa
ye gussaa
haay
ye gussaa teraa subhaan-allaah
ik husn kaa dariyaa chadh aayaa
lo chehraa surkh sharaab huaa
ye garm nigaah taubaa-taubaa
patthar mein bhi aag bhadak uthhe
ye garm nigaah taubaa-taubaa
patthar mein bhi aag bhadak uthhe
us dil kaa Khudaa hi haafiz hai
jo teri nazar se takraayaa
ye gussaa
ye gussaa teraa subhaan-allaah
ik husn kaa dariyaa chadh aayaa
lo chehraa surkh sharaab huaa
kyun aag baboolaa hote ho
ab chhodo aise gusse ko
kyun aag baboolaa hote ho
ab chhodo aise gusse ko
honthon ki laali kehti hai
ik sholaa lab tak badh aayaa
ye gussaa
ye gussaa teraa subhaan-allaah
ik husn kaa dariyaa chadh aayaa
lo chehraa surkh sharaab huaa
aankhon ne saagar chhalkaayaa
ye gussaa
haay
ye gussaa teraa subhaan-allaah
ik husn kaa dariyaa chadh aayaa
lo chehraa surkh sharaab huaa

Polyandry is an acceptable custom in India going back to the panch pandavas and their one wife. In North India women are shared among brothers…
I don’t like the song much even without all this regressive baggage. Dharam ji, as always, super cute though.
