Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Mujhe ishq hai tujhi se meri jaan e zindagaani

Posted on: September 18, 2010

This happens with me many a times. I listen to a song and like it. And then I forget all about it. I have no clue about the identity of the song, except that it was a song sung by a particular singer.

In this case, I was not even aware of the lyrics ! With such clues (or lack thereof), there is no way one can search for the song. The only way one can get reacquinted with such a song is by chance.

And that is what happened with me a few hours ago. While looking for songs to post in the blog, I came across this unfamilair looking song “mujhe ishq hai tujhi se (Ummeed). The lyrics looked unfamiliar and the name of the movie “Ummeed” was totally unheard of.

When I played the song, it rang bells. Wow ! This is a song that I used to hear a lot in late 1960s. Rafi’s voice is unmistakable, but I knew no other details at that time. And no one can be blamed if one has not heard of this movie called “Ummeed”. This movie must have sunk without a trace, and must have sunk far deeper than other sunk movies.

Now, I have all the details of this song. This song is from “Ummeed” (1971). It is sung by Rafi and it is picturised on Joy Mukherji and Nanda. Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist and Ravi is the music director.

This is a song that I regarded as an iconic song those days, that is how deeply ingrained in my psyche this song was. And it could well be an iconic song. An iconic song from an obscure movie- that has a nice ring about it.

Here is this wonderful song that I discovered again, in true Hindi movie lost and found manner.

song-Mujhe ishq hai tujhi se meri jaan e zindagaani (Ummeed) (1971) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Ravi

Lyrics

mujhe ishq hai tujhi se
meri jaan-e-zindagaani
tere paas meraa dil hai
mere pyaar ki nishaani
mujhe ishq hai tujhi se
meri jaan-e-zindagaani
tere paas meraa dil hai
mere pyaar ki nishaani
mujhe ishq hai tujhi se

meri zindagi mein tu hai
mere paas kyaa kami hai
jise gham nahin khizaan kaa
wo bahaar toone di hai
meri zindagi mein tu hai
mere paas kyaa kami hai
jise gham nahin khizaan kaa
wo bahaar toone di hai
mere haal par huyi hai
teri khaas meharbaani
tere paas meraa dil hai
mere pyaar ki nishaani
mujhe ishq hai tujhi se

tere husn ne dikhaayi
mujhe bekhudi ki raahen
ye haseen lab nasheele
ye jhuki-jhuki nigaahen
tere husn ne dikhaayi
mujhe bekhudi ki raahen
ye haseen lab nasheele
ye jhuki-jhuki nigaahen
teri zulf se uthi hai
ye ghataaon ki jawaani
tere paas meraa dil hai
mere pyaar ki nishaani
mujhe ishq hai tujhi se

na mujhe gham e muqaddar
na mujhe ghame zamaanaa
tere dam se hai salaamat
mere dil ka aashiyanaa
na mujhe gham e muqaddar
na mujhe ghame zamaanaa
tere dam se hai salaamat
mere dil ka aashiyanaa
rahi umr bhar jubaan par
tere pyaar ki kahaani
tere paas mere dil hai
mere pyaar ki nishaani
mujhe ishq hai tujhi se
meri jaan-e-zindagaani
tere paas meraa dil hai
mere pyaar ki nishaani
mujhe ishq hai tujhi se

hi atul
i completely agree with you about this song. we must ve heard it umpteen number of times in the 70s but tell me is ir a 1971 movie. i am asking coz this seems to be in Black And White. and i thought that Anubhav starring Sanjeev Kumar and Tanuja was the only B’n’W movie in the 70s

OOps! You are right. On checking up, I see that the movie was released in 1962. I have now corrected the year.
