Few people today remember this movie called “Aman” (1967). It must have been a huge flop for this movie to end up like this considering that the movie had big names in it. Rajendra Kumar and Saira Bano were leading names during those days and Shankar Jaikishan were the biggest names in music direction those days. But all these big names could not rescue this movie.
The songs of this movie are superb songs. It is just that most people who have heard these songs may not be aware of the name of the movie these songs are from.
Here is alovely semi classical song from this movie. Rajendra Kumar visits Saira Bano’s home and her father ( or may be Rajendra Kumar) asks her to sing a song. She takes a sitar with her and sings this song.
I must say that playing a sitar while singing a song is far more practical than sitting on a grand piano and singing which is quite a common way of picturisation of songs in Hindi movies. And it is very much a part of Indian culture too considering that Sitar is an Indian instrument thousands of years old, and even ancient Gods and Godesses are depicted playing Sitar and Veena.
It must be said that Saira Bano looks like she is actually playing the sitar and not just holding it.
Lata has sung this song beautifully.Shailendra has come up with a song full of nice Sanskritised Hindi words that sound sweet to the ears.

a very beautiful song!
I saw this movie years ago on DD. It is much more famous for the fact that Bertrand Russell stars in it.
The other song which more famous is ‘Aaj ki raat, hai kaise raat’.

I love this song, and yes, I too cannot figure out why this movie flopped, esp after the success of Jhuk Gaya Aasman and Aayee Milan Ki Bela, with the same cast. People were probably tired of seeing the couple, and personally, I think Rajendra Kumar was beginning to look too old to be the romantic hero. The songs were great, though. Thanks for the song, Atul!

I remember seeing this movie as a young boy.
It was a war movie with a message – but what I do remember of it is that it was very serious and pretty depressing.
In fact I think that is the reason it flopped badly.
People of 1967 expected masala from Rajendra Kumar and Saira Banu, not a serious movie about the hard realities of war.
“Aaj ki raat” is the most famous song of the movie but this one is very nice too.

Thanks for posting this song.When I saw the initial words I just had no inkling of what was coming up. However it all came flooding back since after the first couple of words I could recall the tune.In those days, growing up in Bhilai, most people in a street would tune in to the most popular channel i.e., Radio Ceylon’s “Aap hi ke geet ” and the atmosphere would reverberate with lovely music which would then become “general knowledge”

Kuch to telepathy ki baat hai, I heard this song and didn`t know the film`s name and asked my mummy about the film`s name afternoon and ready to request the song, You have posted it already, Its hard to digest, You have to believe it!!!!!
At mornings, between 7.55 and 8.15, vividh bharathi broadcasts , these types of melodious ,but not so popular songs, under the name of “CHITRAPAT SANGEET”, I heard this song, today morning,eventhough the radio waves are not so clear, at my place.
Oh What a co-incidence, or what shall I say? Further, from previous 2 weeks, everyday I thought of another song sung by lataji, from this film, In which some Japani words are there, But everytime I used to drop the thought of requesting it,
“Ai suru aisuru, ai suru ai suru, mera watan japaan, mera watan japaan, kitna haseen, kitni sundar, mera watan japan”(picturised on saira bano in a japanese outfit and emulating japanese adaayein”
