Ham donon do premi duniya chhod chalen

Here is yet another of those songs that I thought I had already discussed in this blog but I was wrong. This is a memorable rail song and I have discussed this song alright, but that was in another forum/blog while I was discussing rail songs.
This song is from “Ajnabi” (1974) and it is picturised on Rajesh Khanna nd Zeenat Aman. While running away from their pursuers, they hop on a freight train. The train is on the move and the two love birds sing on the train, hopping from one haystack to other haystack which the train is carrying. Personally I have never seen a freight train carrying haystacks. Trains most of the time carry coal, but you do not expect Rajesh Khanna and Zeenat Aman to jump around in wagons carrying coal, do we !
The duet song is sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata. Lyrics by Anand Bakshi are quite romantic and sensuous. R D Burman, who to my mind created the best rail songs along with his father, is the music director of this song.
Here is this rail song par excellence from “Ajnabi” (1974).

Song-Ham dono do premi duniya chhod chalen (Ajnabi) (1974) Singers-Kishore Kumar, Lata, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-R D Burman
Lyrics
ham donon do premi duniyaa chhod chalen
jeewan ki ham saari rasmen tod chalen
ae baaboo kahaan jaibo re
ham donon do premi duniyaa chhod chalen
jeewan ki ham saari rasmen tod chalen
ho baabul ki aaye mohe yaad
jaane kyaa ho ab iske baad
ham donon do premi duniyaa chhod chalen
jeewan ki ham saari rasmen tod chalen
gaadi se keh do chale tez manzil hai door
thoda safar ka mazaa leejiye ae huzoor
gaadi se keh do chale tez manzil hai door
arre thoda safar ka mazaa leejiye ae huzoor
ho dekho na chhedo is tarah
rasta kate phir kis tarah
ham donon do premi duniyaa chhod chalen
jeewan ki ham saari rasmen tod chalen
ho baabul ki aaye mohe yaad
jaanaa kahaan hai bataa us shahar kaa naam
le chal jahaan teri marzi ye teraa hai kaam
arre jaanaa kahaan hai bataa us shahar kaa naam
le chal jahaan teri marzi ye teraa hai kaam
mujhpe hai itnaa aitbaar
maine kiyaa hai tumse pyaar
ham donon do premi duniyaa chhod chalen
jeewan ki ham saari rasmen tod chalen
ae kyaa soch rahi ho
hmm main
haan-haan
kuchh bhi to nahin
bolo naa kuchh to
aisaa naa ho tu kabhi
chhod de meraa saath
phir na kabhi kehnaa
dil todne waali baat
aisaa naa ho tu kabhi
chhod de meraa saath
arre phir na kabhi kehnaa
dil todne waali baat
ho maine to ki thi dillagi
achchhaa maine bhi ki thi dillagi
ham donon do premi duniyaa chhod chalen
jeewan ki ham saari rasmen tod chalen
ham donon do premi
ham donon do premi
ham donon do premi
ham donon do premi

“you do not expect Rajesh Khanna and Zeenat Aman to jump around in wagons carrying coal, do we !”
But Atul, it is a Hindi movie! Anything and everything is possible. One of my favorite R.D. Burman songs. The other very good song from the movie was the rain song. RK and Zeenat look so good here.
