Just saw this post today. The lead in the film was Dev Aanad (Ashok Kumar was his friend). Very nice story. There is a synopsis available on Wikipedia. I saw the film in 1954. The other actress in the film was Usha Kiron. All four acted well.
There is a nice song by Asha Bhosle, picurised on Usha Kiron.

Further to my comments I made yesterday.
Bombay Talkies Studio was failing and the workers came together under the banner “Workers Own Enterprise” and produced this film Baadbaan.
I also found a poster of the film (www.cinestan.com). In the poster, Ashok Kumar gets the top billing followed by Dev Anand, Meena Kumari, Usha Kiron. In the poster, there is a big picture of Dev Ananad and small pictures of several actors.
Another poster lists names in the same order (Ashok Kumar first) but has a large picture of Usha Kiron and two small ones – Dev Anand and Gope.
Encyclopedia of Indian Cinema also lists the names in the same order (page 1994).

Instead of ‘Naach ke sab bujh gaye diye’, it is ‘Aas ke sab bujh gaye diye’.
