“Wahaan” (1937) is a very old Hindi movie which few people know about today. Many legends of Hindi movies had acted in this movie. Names like Chandramohan, Shanta Apte, Leela Chitnis, Prahlad, Ulhas, Master Chhotu etc had figured in this movie.
Here is a rare song from this by now rare movie. This song is sung by Shanta Apte and it is picturised on her as well. Narottam Vyas is the lyricist. Music is composed by Master Krishnarao.
What a delightful song it is ! I feel myself privileged to discover Shanta Apte. This is another example of her wonderful singing ability.

The film WAHAAN(1937) was a Prabhat production and debut direction film of K.NARAYAN KALE.He wrote the screenplay also.
Kale was impressed with Hollywood Biblical epics and its influence showed in the film also.
It was an imaginary story of an ancient Aryan Society,ruled by KODAND VARMA(Chandramohan),a dictator believing in Aryan justice.A giant statue of Justice falls and many slaves are saved by Jeevan(Pralhad),king of a tribe ,who falls in love with Princess Jayanti(Leela Chitnis).
Villain is Madhuvrat(Chchotu).Heir to the Throne is Uttam(Ulhas).
Shanta Apte is the dancing girl,Lata.
WAHAAN was a film of Romance,deceit,fighting and happy ending.It stressed Morality.Film’s songs were popular then.
Note: Vasant Desai had done a role in this movie.
