Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Purvaiyya leke chali meri naiyya

Posted on: April 8, 2010

This song was a reasonably popular song of its time and people would love listening to this song, even if they were not aware about the details of this song.

With time, this song has been forgotten, but this song deserves to be better known.

This song is from “Do Jasoos” (1975), a comedy movie where Raj Kapoor and Rajendra Kumar play two bumbling detectives (thus the title “Do Jasoos”). But then middle aged detectives are not supposed to sing romantic songs (which is a must in Bollywood movies), so two youngsters, Shalilendra Singh and Bhawana Bhatt was roped in for this job.

Shailendra Singh is the same person who made his playback debut singing for Rishi Kapoor is “Bobby” (1973). Here in this movie, he makes his acting debut. Bhawana Bhatt too makes her acting debut in this movie.

This song is a lovely “boat” song which is such nicely by Shailendra Singh and Lata and it is picturised on Shailendra Singh and Bhawana Bhatt. Ravindra Jain is the music director. Normally, he used to write the lyrics too, but it seems that this song was written not by him but by Hasrat Jaipuri.

It is a lovely song to listen to, which can cheer up the listeners every time without fail.

Song-Purvaiyya leke chale meri naiyya (Do Jaasoos) (1975) Singers-Shailendra singh, Lata, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri, MD-Ravindra Jain

Lyrics

dariya raja
dewaa ho dewaa
tumhi ho mata
deva ho deva
ho ho ho
tere bharose chhod di naiyaa
naiyya ka ab to tu hi khiwaiyya

purwaiyya leke chali meri naiyaa
jaane kahaan re
jaane kahaan re
he

gori gori
jaana hamen ab kahaan re
tu bhi yahaan re
main bhi yahaan re
he

saagar mein jitni tarangen hain
manwa mein utni umangen hain
rama ho rama ho rama ho ho
haay re haay
saagar mein jitni tarangen hain
manwa mein utni umangen hai
ho ho ho
mausam ye kitna suhaana hai
sabke labon pe taraana hai
ham bhi gaa len
meethe taraane milan ke
pyaara samaa re

dooba hoon main teri aankhon mein
khoyaa hoon manzil ki raahon mein
rama ho rama ho rama ho ho
haay re haay
dooba hoon main teri aankhon mein
khoya hoon manzil ki raahon mein
ho ho ho
aankhon ko saajan jhukaana na
mujhko nazar se giraana naa
banke paagal bhatki hoon main tere kaaran
kahaan kahaan re
kahaan kahaan re
gori gori
jaanaa hamen ab kahaan re
tu bhi yahaan re
main bhi yahaan re

dushman ye saara zamaana hai
bachhke hamen door jaana hai
rama ho rama ho raama ho ho
haay re haay
dushman ye saara zamaana hai
bachhke hamen door jaana hai
ho ho ho
kahne ko apni judaayi thi
aankhon mein tu hi samaayi thi
main to haara
teri muhabbat ki khaatir
donon jahan re
donon jahaan re
purwaiyya leke chali meri naiyya
jaane kahaan re
jaane kahaan re
he

dariya raja
dewaa ho dewaa
tumhi ho mata
deva ho deva
ho ho ho
tere bharose chhod di naiyaa
naiyya ka ab to tu hi khiwaiyya
tu hi khiwaiyya

Oooooh ! I just LOVE this song. It has been ages since I heard this. Thanks a lot, Atul, for reviving this one.

The boat scene reminds me of “hum tumhe chahte hai aise” from Qurbani.

This song came five years before the “Qurbani” song.

This song reminds me of my old golden school days

This is in my permanent memory and one of the top in list of ‘songs that bring back memories …’
