Beliyaa beliyaa beliyaa beliyaa
Posted on: July 23, 2011
I came across this song a few hours ago. And I wondered where this song was hiding all these days from my view.
This is a nice club/part dance song from “Parvarish” (1958). The song is sung by Lata and Manna Dey. Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist and the delightful music is composed by Dattaram.
The song is picturised on Raj Kapoor and a lady whom I cannnot identify. Most sites are silent about her identity and a site describes her as Kuldip Kaur. The East European looking lady coul well be Kuldip Kaur, but she may as well be one of those lesser known western ladies who made a few appearances in Hindi movies those days. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify her.
PS-It turns out that she is Jennifer Murray. I thank Mr Sandip Apte for this information.
This is a lovely song that I heard (and watched) for the first time only just now.

beliya beliya beliya beliya
beliya beliya beliya beliya
bheegi si bahaaron mein
tumne ishaaron se
dil mera dil mera le liyaa
femiya

femiya femiya femiya femiya
dekho jee hazaaron mein
tumne ishaaron se
dil mera dil mera le liyaa

beliya beliya beliya beliya
ho ho ho ho
ho ho ho ho
lala lalalla la
ahaahaha
chaand ka chhalke paimaanaa
chaal meri mastaanaa
pyaar ka jaam pilaanaa
jal na jaaye zamaane
jhoom ke raat kahe
haathon mein haath rahe
neele gagan tale aaa
jhoom ke raat kahe
haathon mein haath rahe
neele gagan tale aaa
beliya beliya beliya beliya
beliya beliya beliya beliya
bheegi si bahaaron mein
tumne ishaaron se
dil mera dil mera le liyaa

femiya femiya femiya femiya
ho ho ho ho
ho ho ho ho
lala alala
ahahaha
main to chanda se gori
baat suno zara chhori
pyar karoon chori chori
daal ke nainon ki dori
hamne to jaan liyaa
tumko pehchaan liyaa
duniya jale to jale aaa aaa
hamne to jaan liyaa
tumko pehchaan liyaa
duniya jale to jale aa
femiya femiya femiya femiya
femiya femiya femiya femiya
dekho jee hazaaron mein
tumne ishaaron se
dil mera dil mera le liyaa
beliya beliya beliya beliya
beliya beliya beliya beliya

Arunkumar, thanks! Do you have more information on Ms. O’Brien? From her last name, she appears to be of Irish descent, and may have migrated to India in search of acting roles (as do many “foreigners” in Bollywood these days). She could also be an Anglo-Indian living in India. I do know there were some Anglo-Indian ladies who performed in dance songs in movies of those days.

Atul the dancer in Beliya Beliya is NOT Honey O Brien.
She is Jennifer Murray.
Here is proof in the screen cap from both the songs.
Mool Narain Sardanaji from the Facebook Group ‘Wo Din Yaad Karo’ pointed it out to me and indeed even my mistaken notion was cleared!

Atul ji,
The actress in the song is the same HONEY OBRIEN, who was in Awara(1951) in ‘Ek bewafa se pyar kiya,in Afsana (1951) in a balle dance and also famously in EK THI LADKI singing,Dilli se aaya bhai tingu.(E.& OE)

Yes, I had also half guessed that. She in fact actually herself sang that song ‘Dilli se aaya bhai Tingu”.
