“Shaadi Se Pehle” (1947) was a movie produced by Raja Nene Productions, Bombay and it had actors like Ranjna,Rajan,Vasant Thengri,Raja Nene, Leela Gadkar,Gokhale,Dixit,Bargir,Jivaji Kulkarni etc in it. This movie was also known by an alternative title viz “Juye Ka Nateeza” (meaning Evils of gambling)
This movie was no great shakes and no names in the starcast ring any bells in the minds of present day movie lovers. But this movie inadventently contained something of great significance. This movie had a duet sung by the then emerging singers called Rafi and Lata. This duet is the vey first duet sung by Lata and Rafi. This was the first of the just over 400 duets that Rafi and Lata would go on to sing in their over three decades long association.
This blog boasts of nearly 170 out of these 400 odd Rafi-Lata duets. Here is the very first duet involving the two.
This duet is a fun song where the lady is asking the gentleman for the items that a typical desi lady covets, viz chappal, sari etc whereas the gentleman would like her to be dressed like a Memsaab, viz in sandle (from London), gown (from Paris) etc. 😀
The fun lyrics are written by Pt Mukhram Sharma and music is composed by the music director duo of Pt Ramakant Paingankar-Karnad
Here is this delightful duet song of great historical significance. The two singers must have really enjoyed while singing this song. What a lovely song to listen to. It sounds so cute and fresh even today. Enjoy !

What a find. I was not aware of a Lata-Rafi duet from 1947.
The Dailymotion video links provided are usually having a disagreement with my computer. They stop loading halfway. So i have found a youtube link to the same song.

I provide dailymotion video instead of youtube videos for a few reasons.
1.when embedding is disabled in youtube videos,resulting in error message in the blog.
2.When youtube videos are withdrawn for various reasons, which is quite common.
3.Users uploading videos in youtube often have their accounts suspended for no valid reason, except that someone else claims rights over these videos, even for obscure videos which no one may have been aware for decades. I upload the rare videos/audios that I obtain on dailymotion. because of these and other reasons.
