“Mast Qalandar” (1955) is an obscure B grade movie that had such B grade superstars as Mahipal, Johny Walker, Helen, Tiwari, Naaz etc in it. Kedar Kapoor was the director.
The songs of this movie are more obscure than even the movie, and they are just the kind of songs that I love to explore, because they invariably yield us unheard of gems.
Here is a lovely duet from this movie. This song is sung by Talat Mehmood and Asha Bhonsle. Asad Bhopali is the lyricist. Music is composed by Hansraj Bahl.
I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie. Seeing that only the audio of this song is available, hazarding a guess about how the song is picturised will be a tall order, I can guess that Mahipal must have lip synced in Talat Mehmood’s voice, but that is all I can guess. The above sketchy informatiion does not give me any idea about the female lead who must have lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice. Helen and Naaz, who were supposed to have figured in this movie were barely in their teens at that times and it is unlikely that they played the heroine’s role in tis movie. 😀

MAST QALANDAR(1955) was a N.C.Films’ movie directed by Kedar kapoor.The MD was Hansraj Behl and lyrics were from Asad Bhopali and Naksh Lyalpuri.
The cast was Maipal chand Bhandari,Shakila,Helen,govind,Johnny Walkwr,Maruti rao,Ramesh Thakur,Naaz,Sarita,Kuldip kaur,Tiwari etc
Shyam is a carefree young man with plenty of riches,but does not do any work.The film tries to stress the importance of earning money oneself to sustain self respect.
