Ajab hai maalik tera jahaan

Different people may have different ways of judging movies. I read an old joke in this connection some three decades ago. A Pathan from Afghanistan came to India and looked at a poster of a movie . He was very impressed with the title of the poster and he went to watch that movie. after THE END, he came out very frustrated and disappointed. He was asked the reason for his disappointment. “The poster promised that the movie had Chiraag Khan and Roshni Khan in it. I watched the entire movie , but I could not find either of the Khans in this movie.” The Pathan explained.
The Pathan had judged the movie “Chiraag Kahaan Roshni Kahaan” by misreading its title. 🙂 There are wise men who have cautioned us never to judge a book by its cover. Judging a movie by its title is similar to judging a book by its cover. 🙂
Thankfully there have been no similar wise men to caution us against judging a Hindi movie by its songs. As a result, I tend to judge a movie by its songs all the time. 🙂 I feel that my way of judging a movie is more accurate than the existing methods of judging stock market perfomance though fundamental analysis and technical analysis. 🙂
I have listened to the songs of “Chiraag Kahaan Roshni Kahaan” and in my judgement, it has to be a great movie- highly recommended. Later on, I find that Memsaab, who has her own methodology of judging movies, also found this movie to be a great movie by her yardsticks. Yes, she has written a glowing article on this movie in her blog. So, my way of judging a movie gives reliable results, as validated by an independent source. 🙂
As many as four songs from this movie have been discussed in this blog. This included the iconic children’s song Chal mere ghode tik tik tik .
Here is the title song cum theme song of this movie. this song, which plays in the background while the picturisation shows Rajendra Kumar and Meena Kumari and a kid, who is the central character in this movie.
The song is sung by Rafi. Prem Dhawan is the lyricist and music is composed by Ravi.
Here is this fantastic title song from “Chiraag Kahaan Roshn Kahaan” (1959). The lyrics of this song were sent to me by nahm.

Yes indeed it is a great movie. The storyline is just what it should be. But the fact is, I cannot see characters in Hindi movie suffering even one bit, so even if there is happy ending in the end, I cannot bear to see the main characters suffer the pain of separation, however temporary that may be.

Beautiful song.I dont know but Rajendrakumars songs were always very touchy.Especially when Rafi Saab sings for him there is always that feeling that he was puting his heart & soul in to the lyrics and
Rajendrakumar did the same.
By the way Iam coming to India inthe Month of Dec/Jan.Is there any chance to meet you guys?If so please let me know the address and Tel.No.Please kindly reply me on my email address.
Regards
Pravi.Vasani.
