Song-Gham kyun ho jeene waalon ko (Shahanshah)(1953) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-S D Burman
Lyrics(Provided by nahm)
aaaa aaa aaa
hmm
aaa aaa aaa
aaa aaa aaaa
hmmmm
gham kyun ho
o o
gham kyun ho
jeene waalon ko
jeetey jee
jeene waalon ko
jeetey jee
marne ka gham kyun ho
gham kyun ho
shokh labon par
aahen kyun ho
aankh mein nam kyun ho
gham kyun ho
aaj agar gulshan mein
ae ae ae ae
aaj agar gulshan mein kali
khilti hai to kal murjhaati hai
phir bhi khil kar hansti hai
aur hans ke chaman mehkaati hai
mehkaati hai
gham kyun ho
kal ka din kis ne dekhaa hai
aaj ka din ham khoyen kyun
jin ghadiyon mein hans sakte hain
un ghadiyon mein royen kyun
royen kyun
gham kyun ho
gaaye jaa
aaa aaa aaa aaa
gaaye jaa
gaaye jaa masti ke taraane
thandi aahen bharnaa kya
gaaye jaa
maut aayi to mar bhi lenge
maut se pehle marna kyaa
marna kyaa
gham kyun ho
gham kyun ho
jeene waalon ko
jeetey jee
marne ka gham kyun ho
gham kyun ho

This song has two versions, both by Lata. One fast and this is slow version.
Rajan (Ravinder) Kapoor and Veteran actor Kamal Kapoor were the brothers.

derubala ji,
The Hero of Shaenshah was RANJAN and NOT Rajan Kapoor.
Ranjan who was actually Ramnarayan Venkatramana Sarma,an actor from Madras. He was highly qualified. He acted in more than 50 Hindi films. He was,in real life too,an ace sword fighter and did only such roles effectively.he had his own audience who would throng cinema halls to see his sword fighting. His earliest role in Chandralekha-1948 is still remembered.he died in America in 1983.

Arunji,
As you have written …”a kind poor magician (Rajan kapoor)”…
so…is he Ranjan or Rajan Kapoor as a magician?
Thought I’d elaborate on Magician NOT the hero of the film RANJAN. I have seen his couple of movies in 50’s.

Atul ji,
SHAHENSHAH-1953 was a costume drama in which Ranjan had displayed his sword fighting skills. It was a very interesting film.
A G.P.Prodn film,it was produced by G.P.Sippy and directed by Amiya Chakraborty.Music was by S.D.Burman ably assisted by none other than N.Dutta in this film. The s/play and story was by Rajendra Shah and dialogues by Chandrakant.
The shah of Iran is killed and the queen with her 2 children escapes with the loyal Wazir’s help to Baghdad.Wazir and his family is also killed. The queen takes a shelter with a kind poor magician (Rajan kapoor) and brings up the children. The princess of Iraq is very young and the Evil Wazir(K.N.Singh) looks after the kingdom. He is very oppressive and cruel.
years pass by and the prince now becomes a young brave man.He is called Shahensha(Ranjan). He leads people against the evil wazir. The young princess also grows up into a beautiful young girl Noor(Kamini Kaushal). She suspects that the wazir is cruel,so she diguises as a boy and roams in Baghdad to know the truth. She meets Shahenshah, who sends a message to Noor thru this ‘boy’.
The prince of iran Bakhtiyar comes to Baghdad to ask for Noor’s hand in marriage.Shahenshah engages him with a dancer and himself goes as Bakhtiyar.Noor is very happy to see him,but the secret is revealed when real Bakhtiar comes there. The wazir now wants to kill both Shahenshah and Bakhtiyar, but they join hands and a big sword fight takes place in which Shahenshah kills the evil wazir and wins Noor as a willing prize.
