Kisi ki patli qamar lachakti

Posted on: May 3, 2012

“Inspector” seems to be a popular title in Hindi movies of 1950s and later. One movie of this name was produced in 1956 and another movie of the same title was released in 1970. Both these movies ended up becoming obscure quickly enough.

“Inspector” (1970) was produced by S K Kapoor and directed by Chand. The movie had Joy Mukherjee, Alka, Helen, Rajendra Nath, Kiran Kumar, Zeb Rehman, Samina, Murad, M.B. Shetty, Asha Nadkarni, Jayant etc in it.

Here is a song from “Inspector”(1970). This song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor. S H Bihari is the lyricist. Music is composed by N Datta.

The song is picturised on a swimming pool where Joy Mukherji is among many bikini clad ladies and his song is addressed to them. In the process he would dive in the pool too. I am not aware if it is possible to swim and sing simultaneously, but Joy Mukherji achieves this feet successfully and with ease in this song :).

While he is frolicking in water with several bikini clad ladies, Alka Asha Nadkarni (fully clad) watches him with stern disapproval writ large on her face.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Atif M.

Song-Kisi ki patli kamar lachakti (Inspector)(1970) Singer-Mahendra Kapoor, Lyrics-S H Bihari, MD-N Datta

Lyrics(Provided by Atif M)

haaye
haaye
hey
kisi ki patli kamar lachakti
kisi ka mukhda gulaab jaise
koyi bataaye
o o
koyi bataaye
ke aisi haalat mein
dil pe qaabu rahe to kaise

hoye
kisi ki patli kamar lachakti
kisi ka mukhda gulaab jaise
koyi bataaye
o o
koyi bataaye
ke aisi haalat mein
dil pe qaabu rahe to kaise

khuda bachaaye ajeeb sa hai
shabaab ka yeh haseen zamaana
la lala la lala lala lala lala la
ho o
khuda bachaaye ajeeb sa hai
shabaab ka yeh haseen zamaana
qadam qadam par nayi kahaani
qadam qadam par naya fasaana
hoye
kisi ki patli kamar lachakti
kisi ka mukhda gulaab jaise
koyi bataaye
o o
koyi bataaye
ke aisi haalat mein
dil pe qaabu rahe to kaise

oye oye hoy oye
yeh gori gori tumhaari baanhen
machal rahi hain kuchh is tarah se
la lala la lala lala lala lala la
o o
yeh gori gori tumhaari baanhen
machal rahi hain kuchh is tarah se
nazar ko dhoka yeh ho raha hai
lagi hai paani mein aag jaise
hoye
kisi ki patli kamar lachakti
kisi ka mukhda gulaab jaise
koyi bataaye
ho o
koyi bataaye
ke aisi haalat mein
dil pe qaabu rahe to kaise

khuli khuli yeh tumhaari zulfen
zaroor saawan ki badliyaan hain
la lala la lala lala lala lala la
ho o
khuli khuli yeh tumhaari zulfen
zaroor saawan ki badliyaan hain
aur in ke peechhe chhupi chhupi si
yeh shokh nazron ki bijliyaan hain
hmm
kisi ki patli kamar lachakti
kisi ka mukhda gulaab jaise
koyi bataaye
ho o
koyi bataaye
ke aisi haalat mein
dil pe qaabu rahe to kaise

The lady fully clad watching Joy Mukherjee and co is not ALKA, It is ASHA NADKARNI(The lady with cooling glasses)

Are bhai, ye to naseebwala Inspector hai jo har trah ki duty baja raha hai 😆
Like Atulji observed, he can sing under water also. Multi talented Inspector! Synchronized swimming dekha hai lekin synchronized singing sirf hindi movie mein hi milta hai.

I missed reading that comment on Dec 12, 2011 because of family get together (X’mas holidays)
Aap ne to movie ki review sunakar mere saare armaan (movie dekhne ke) tod daale 😆 I can’t imagine JM as a havaldaar, then forget about him as a inspector. And to see him as a 007, ye sochkar to mere raungte khade ho gaye. I was thinking that the producer of this movie, S K Kapoor should have considered Biswajeet for this 007 role. What do you think Atulji?

Biswajeet in late 60s to early 70s was nearly as awful as Joy M., so wouldn’t have made much of a difference. To quote an example, have a look at this song from Mehmaan (1974) – https://atulsongaday.me/2010/05/01/uff-ye-jawaani-ye-adaa/

In both these songs, two of the greats of yesteryears, viz. Sahir Ludhianvi and N. Datta, seem to have been afflicted by the general mediocrity that had insidiously descended upon the Hindi film music in that time period.

Kya Atifbhai. Aap ne to meri nazar mein Biswajeet ki izzat aur badha di. (uski umra se do guni jyada). You know I am kidding. How can he accept a role against a heroine who is almost two decades younger than him? Apne se junior artist, Jitu ki copy kar raha hai. Bade sharm ki baat hai. Usko laga hoga ki wig lagane se “Main Sundar Hoon” lagne lagunga. 🙂 You must not forget that in MSH-71, he acted against Leena Chandawarkar and that also with wig. I was shocked that Sahir could write that type of song. Thank God we could see his real/original work in Kabhi Kabhi-76.

Sahir was an exceptional poet, I doubt the ‘haay ice cream’ part was his line. Maybe the composer added it to balance the verse/meter, or perhaps to give the song a contemporary touch (which failed miserably, by the way).

Both Biswajeet & JM should thank the great Mohammad Rafi, who played an instrumental part in making them stars. Without the plethora of amazing Rafi songs, their stars wouldn’t have shone so brightly. They were lucky to have been blessed with movie after movie of superhit, ever-green Rafi songs, which people remember to this day. Most of these movies had average (I’m being generous) storylines & relied on foreign (exotic) locations with matching titles to draw the cinema-goers.

The common denominator, however, remained the acting of the lead actor which nearly always bordered on the median.

Nevertheless, the outstanding feature, in almost all of them, had been excellent music and unforgettable Rafi numbers.
