Posted July 11, 2012
on:“Dulaari” (1949) was a Kardar Production. It was produced and directed by A R Kardar. The movie had Suresh, Madhubala, Geeta Bali, Shyam Kumar, Jayant, Amar, Pratima Devi, Nawab etc in it.
I have discussed as many as ten songs from this movie in the past. Here is the eleventh song from this movie.
This song is sung by Lata and chorus. It is picturised on Madhubala and others as a dance song.
Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist. Music is composed by Naushad.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Atif M.
Song-Do din ki bahaar (Dulaari)(1949) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Naushad
Chorus
Lyrics(Provided by Atif M)
do din ki bahaar pyaare
dil mein basa le pyaar
dil mein basa le pyaar
do din ki bahaar
do din ki
do din ki bahaar
do din ki
(ahaa ahaa haa haa haa
aa aa aa aa)
do din ki bahaar pyaare
dil mein basa le pyaar
dil mein basa le pyaar
(aa aa aa)
do din ki bahaar
do din ki
do din ki bahaar
do din ki
do din ki bahaar pyaare
do din ki bahaar
do din ki bahaar do din ki
do din ki bahaar pyaare
do din ki bahaar
dil mein basa le pyaar
balma dil mein basa le pyaar
basa le pyaar basa le pyaar
dil mein basa le pyaar
balma dil mein basa le pyaar
do din ki bahaar pyaare
do din ki bahaar
dekho yeh rut phir na aaye gi
dil ko na tadpaaye gi
paayal ki jhankaar pyaare
do din ki bahaar
bhed jiya ke chhaila
bhed jiya ke chhaila
kaise kahoon
o baabu kaise kahoon
haay o rasiya
kaise kahoon
hoye kaise kahoon re baabu
kaise kahoon
re chhaila kaise kahoon
mere honthon par jo gaana hai
har dil ka afsaana hai
sun lo zara sarkar pyaare
do din ki bahaar
geet anokhe gaaun
geet anokhe gaaun
tere liye o saajan tere liye
haay o baalam tere liye
hoye tere liye
re baabu tere liye
re chhaila tere liye
mere sang sang tu bhi gaata ja
dil ka saaz bajaata ja
dekh na kar inkaar pyaare
do din ki bahaar
dil mein basa le pyaar
balma dil mein basa le pyaar

Yes, indeed, Not only it had many songs (a full dozen) but each one of them is a treat in its own right. One would think, Naushad, instead of cramming all these 12 wonderful tunes in one soundtrack, could have spread them out to fill the soundtracks of three different movies by using four nice tunes from this repertoire and add three filler/junk/makeshift tunes.
Never. He was a perfectionist. I do not think he ever intentionally went on to create a ‘junk’ tune on purpose (such as one of those less important side songs, usually reserved for the comedian, heroine’s sister or best friend etc.). Even for such situations, he always gave his best. Every creation was a show-case of his profuse talent, immense dedication and incredible prowess.

Atif Bhai,
Wonderful reminder. 1949 was definitely a magic year for film music, and ‘Dulari’ is amongst the top.
