Aa tujhe palkon mein chhupaa loon

Posted on: July 22, 2012

“Paataal Nagri” (1963) was a Madan Chitra Production. It was directed by Ram Kumar. This B grade movie had Chitra, Azad, B. M. Vyas, Helen, Kesari, Sheikh, King Kong, Ram Kumar etc in it.

The music of this team ended up becoming nearly as obscure as the movie itself.

Here is a song from “Paataal Nagri” (1963). This song is sung by Mukesh. Sajan Bihari is the lyricist. Music is composed by B N Bali.

Only the audio of this song is available and so it is difficult to tell how and on whom this song is pucturised. We should count our blessings that at least the audio of this song is available. I heard this song for the first time just now and I feel that this song is a forgotten gem, that deserves to be better known among music lovers.

Song-Aa tujhe palkon mein chhupaa loon (Paataal Nagri)(1963) Singer-Mukesh, Lyrics-Sajan Bihari, MD-B N Bali

Lyrics

Aa tujhe palkon mein chhupa loon
dekhe na saara zamaana
ik main dekhoon
ho jee
bas main dekhoon
aa tujhe palkon mein chhupa loon
dekhe na saara zamaana
ik main dekhoon
ho jee
bas main dekhoon

phoolon si baanhen
chaand sa chehra
husn ye tera
khwaab sunehra
phoolon si baanhen
chaand sa chehra
husn ye tera
khwaab sunehra
saamne apne tujhko bithaake
dil ye kahe deewaana
ik main dekhoon
ho jee
bas main dekhoon
aa tujhe palkon mein chhupa loon
dekhe na saara zamaana
ik main dekhoon
ho jee
bas main dekhoon

aankhen nasheeli
behki adaayen
tere ishaare
jaadoo jagaayen
aankhen nasheeli
behki adaayen
tere ishaare
jaadoo jagaayen
shokh nazar aanchal mein chhupa kar
bijli tera giraana
ik main dekhoon
ho jee
bas main dekhoon
aa tujhe palkon mein chhupa loon
dekhe na saara zamaana
ik main dekhoon
ho jee
bas main dekhoon

Yes. it’s a beautiful song. Here, I would like to add that before Dara Singh entered movies, there was Azad! He was a manly guy with a beefy build that our movie makers exploited. His first movie was ‘Jimbo’ with Chitra as his heroine. They did a few more movies together.
Atul~ji, will i be possible to highlight Azad’s movies? I think his last appearance was in ‘Intaqam’. He is the massive caged beast whom Helen taunts with that song…”Aaaaa jane jaa…”

oh he (Azad) did so many movies in 70s as the villain’s henchmen, often getting beat up by the likes of Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan……

Really, bluefire?! I was under the impression Azad’s last role was the one in ‘Intaqam’! Wonder what happened to him. Is he still around? And what about Chitra? I’m curious about these two……

I dont know about Chitra, never saw her beyond 60s i think, but here u go with Azad as Seth Kirodimal in Namak Halaal (around 0:58 mark in the clip) :

Bluefire, thank you so much! You know, I have seen ‘Namak Halaal’! But I never knew he is the one time Azad!

Here u go. His filmography:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0044079/

Since he was doing bits and pieces roles, not sure how much accurate this one would be, cause its hard to keep track of people who are not important anymore.

Menon ji,
CHITRA’s real name was Afsarunnisa Begum and she was born in Hyderabad. The famous Director dada gunjal gave her the name of Chitra.
She paired with Shammi Kapoor,Ajit,Mahipal,Daljit,Amarnath,Azad etc.She had acted in some 80 odd films.her last film was Raziya Sultan-1983.
She died on 20-1-2006.

Whoever knew an actress called Chitra, at least I didn’t. You people, especially Deshmukhji, knows so much about HIndi films! It is flabbergasting. Hats off to you all.

Thank you so much for that info on Chitra, Arunkumar~ji. I had sen ‘Raziya Sultan’ but hadn’t recognized her! So sad to hear she passed away.
We may produce the largest number of movies in the world, but, sad to say, little is done to preserve old time classics. And virtually nothing is done about information on old actors and actresses. There are people out there who are sincerely interested in knowing about the whereabouts of these people who also contributed to movie making. Try searching for actor Surendra and see what you get. Almost nothing! Jawahar Kaul acted in such well known movies like ‘Kathputli’ opposite Vyjyanthimala and ‘Dekh Kabira Roya’ opposite Anita Guha. Yet, nothing is known about him.
Many old movies are lost forever as the negatives didn’t survive the wear and tear of nature. ‘Alam Ara’, the first talkie has gone the way of the dinosaurs! Sad, isn’t it?
