October seems to be the month of birthdays for all who made it a habit to entertain us. We have already celebrated Vinod Khanna’s birthday. Next was the turn of Rekha who shares her birhday with S.D.Burman. Then we have the Superstar of the millennium (as the media went overboard describing him) Amitabh Bachchan followed by the grand old man of Hindi movies Ashok Kumar who shares it with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Then the list will have Nirupa Roy (everyone’s Mom or Ashok Kumar’s heroine as you may choose to remember her). And going by the list which Atul has compiled with the list sent by our in-house encyclopedia Arunkumar Deshmukhji and lots of inputs from Khyatiji and Prakashchandraji we will be celebrating a lot of birthdays in the days to come.
Here is a song picturised on one of my favourite Jodis who also almost share their birthdays too, as they celebrate their birthdays on successive days.
This song is from Mr. Natwarlal (1979). It was a very feel good song of those times. Very popular inspite of being a normal song with no great lyrical magic to it. I do not know if the song became popular because of being an Amitabh number or because of being in a hit movie. It might not be the second reason because in that case all the songs from the movie should have become popular. So it should be the first reason. Of course there are exceptions to every rule & we know of many hit movies where all 7 or 8 songs were in public memory for ages.
So here is this song which is written by Anand Bakshi with music by Rajesh Roshan. It is a duet by Lata and Kishore Kumar. We can see Rajni Sharma at the beginning of the song leading the chorus dancers. In the middle of the song we see Manek Irani the stuntman rummaging through the belongings of Amitabh Bachchan.
Song-Pardesiya ye sach hai piya (Mr Natwarlal)(1979) Singers-Lata, Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-Rajesh Roshan
Chorus
Lyrics
He he he re
chori chori
milte hain re chand chakori
o o o
pardesiya aa
pardesiya yeh such hai piya
sab kehte hain maine tujhko dil de diya
pardesiyaaa
pardesiya yeh such hai piya
sab kehte hain maine tujhko dil de diya
main kehti hoon tune mera dil le liya
O
aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa
phoolon mein kaliyon mein
gaaon ki galiyon mein
hum dono badnaam hone lage hain
nadiya kinaare pe
chhat pe chaubaare pe
hum milke hansne rone lage hain
sunke piya
sunke piya dhadke jiya
sab kehte hain maine tujhko dil de diya
main kehti hoon toone mera dil le liya
O o o
aa aa aa aa
o o o o
Logon ko kehne do
kehte hi rehne do
sach jhoot hum kyun sab ko bataayen
main bhi masti mein tu bhi hai masti main
aa is khushi mein hum naache gaayen
kisko pataa
kisko pata kya kisne kiya
sab kehte hain toone mera dil de diya
sab kehte hain maine tujhko dil de diya
mera dil kehta hai
tu dil mein rehta hai
meri bhi dil ki kali khil gayi hai
teri tu jaane re
maane na maane re
mujhko meri manzil mil gayi
tu mil gaya
tu mil gaya mujhko piya
sab kehte hain maine tujhko dil de diya
main kehti hoon toone mera dil le liyaa
pardesiya
pardesiya yeh such hai piya
sab kehte hain maine tujhko dil de diya
main kehti hoon toone mera dil le liyaa

Thank you Peevesie`s mom ji and Atulji
For my favourite song.
I always feel, Onscreen chemistry of Amitji and Rekha is superb. In their younger days, they should have been casted together as a pair in modern day Devdas version(Rekha ji should be either as Paaro or as chandramukhi)
( I didn`t like at all the Devdas- Paaro actors in the Sanjay leela bhansali Devdas version and their on screen chemistry and their artificial acting)
Amit ji, Rekha ji you rock together Happy birthday for both of you.
I love to see both of you in a intense love story again.(a la Silsila)
I think it is possible, after Cheeni kam, where Amitji and Tabu are superb as lovers(atleast for me) 🙂
Oh I can go on and on about Amitji
