Kaise manaaun piyawaa

on:“Chaar Deewaari” (1961) was produced by Chaaya Dhwani and directed by Krishn Chopra. The movie had Shashi Kapoor, Nanda, Leela Chitnis, Manmohan Krishna, Satish Vyas etc in it.
Three songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the forth song from this movie. This song is sung by Mukesh. Shailendra is the lyricist. Music is composed by Salil Chaudhary.
The picturised version of the song is not clear and its audio is of poor quality too and it is difficult to make out who lip syncs this song in the movie. The audio version of this song is of good quality.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Khyati Bhatt.

Song-Kaise manaaun piyawaa (Chaar Deewaari)(1961) Singer-Mukesh, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD-Salil Chaudhary
Lyrics(Provided by Khyati Bhatt)
kaise manaaun piyawaa
gun mere ek hoo naahi
kaise manaaun piyawaa
kaise manaaoon piyawaa
gun mere ek hoo naahi
aayi milan ki bela
aa aa
ghabraaun man maahi
kaise manaaun piyawaa
gun mere ek hoo naahi
kaise manaaun piyawaa
saajan mere aaye
dhadkan badhti jaaye
saajan mere aaye
dhadkan badhti jaaye
naina jhukte jaayen
ghoonghat dhalta jaaye
tujhse kyun sharmaaye
aaj teri parchhaayi
kaise manaaun piyawaa
gun mere ek hoo naahi
ee ee
kaise manaaun piyawaa
main anjaan paraayi
dwaar tihaare aayi
main anjaan paraayi
dwaar tihaare aayi
tumne mujhe apnaaya
preet ki reet nibhaayi
haaye re man ki kaliyaan
phir bhi khil na paayin
kaise manaaun piyawaa
gun mere ek hoo naahi
een
kaise manaaun piyawaa

‘Char Diwari’ had such wonderful, evergreen songs! All thanks to the great Shailendra and Salil-da! This particular song brings out the sadness, longing and poignancy. And can you imagine anyone else singing this song with so much feelings? This song HAD to be sung by Mukesh and Mukesh alone. As Derubala-ji so rightly pointed out, this song is what we call a ‘background song’.

As I am listening to this song, it reminds me another Mukesh song from the film “Teesri Kasam”…..”Sajanwa bairi ho gaye hamar”….that was penned down by Shailendra too but composer was Shankar-Jaikishan.
Regarding Salil Choudhury’s “Chetonar Gaan” or mass-awakening songs, those songs were different….definitely not this one. Salil Choudhury created a Bengali Version of this song later, recorded by Arundhati Holme Choudhury in 1982…”Chanchal Sonali Pakhnay ure gelo sei sab din…”…..in this song one is remembering her golden days…definitely not a mass-awakening song.

The song is playing in background.
But this is one of Salilda creation that has the “consciousness and awakening” in a song
He used to say “Chetonaar Gaan”.
