Today’s song is the last and final song from the mystery,crime and costume film Talaash-1957.
The film was produced by Daulatram and I.M.Anand for Anand Films, Bombay. It was directed by a veteran Vishram Bedekar. Music was by C. Ramchandra. The cast of the film included Ashok Kumar, Beena Rai, Jagirdar, Ameeta, Mrudula, Chaman Puri, Yakub, Eruch Tarapore, Shakuntala, Raj mehra and many others.

Today’s song is the last and final song of the social film Sitara-1955.
In India, from the time, when the first Cinema making started,especially after the Talkie films started, there was a new destination for the ambitious boys and girls to join it and become big stars. In those years any child of 10 to 20 years of age that ran away from the home, was sure to reach Bombay to try his/her luck. There are many such cases Most of such adventures failed and there are extremely few cases where the “Run-Aways’ made it to success. I know such cases, from Music Director Jaidev running away to Bombay in 1933 to actor Chandrashekhar-a Barber’s son from Hyderabad. Jaidev finally made it and he was the only Musician to win 3 National Music Awards for his films and actor Chandrashekhar became a well known hero and in later years president of Actors’ Association for many years.
It is not only the ‘Runaways’, who aspired to become big, but many singers in the chorus and small time actors in the mob scenes of films too had such desires. Today’s film is based on such a story where an ordinary girl in films-working as an extra- aspired to become a big star. (after Bhagwan Dada’s hit film Albela-1951, such films came in hordes !) Such stories are good to watch on screen with their happy endings, but real life is not so kind to all !

A R Rahman – The Musician of 21st Century – 12
This was the last post in the series.
Every day I find myself humming one song or the other of ARR’s compositions. It is only in the last decade or so ARR has started to compose songs for films made in Hindi only. For more than two decades, the maestro was focused more on Tamil/telegu and some time Malayalam film industry and composing music for them. Some of these movies were made in hindi also simultaneously. But most were made in Tamil/Telegu and dubbed for the hindi version.
Despite this fact, the impact of ARR brand is evident all around.

‘Lubna’ (1981) was produced by T. Mohamed Bappu and C.P. Beeran Koya and was directed by Kabeer Rauthar. The cast included Kanwaljeet Singh, Zaheera, Prema Narayan, Murad, M Rajan, Veena, Satyen Kappu, Shobhana, Raza Murad, Amar Kakkad, Lalita Kumari, Sunita, Nazir Kashmiri etc. The film was a Muslim social belonging to the genre of romance drama with a love triangle between Kanwaljeet Singh, Zaheera and Prema Narayan. M Rajan played an important role of Nawab Saab in the film.

This film was made by Aalhaad Chitra, Poona. This banner was owned by producer, director of repute, Datta aka Dada Dharmadhikari. Aalhaad was his son’s name. He used to feature in his father’s films as a child artist. The film was directed by PL Santoshi. There were 2 MDs, namely Nashaad (3 songs) and OP Nayyar (6 songs). Lyrics were by PL Santoshi and Majrooh Sultanpuri. The cast of the film includes Shashikala, Agha, Aalhaad, Sunder, Nana Palsikar, Achala Sachdev, Krishnakant, Raja Gosavi, Premlata, Heera Sawant, Mubarak Begum, Vijaybala and others.

Today’s song is the Last and final song from the Family Drama film Saas bhi kabhi Bahu thi – 1970.
The title of the film immediately reminds us of the popular TV serial Saas bhi kabhi Bahu thi which continuously ran from 3-7-2000 to 6-11-2008 in its first run and then the Season 2 started from 29-7-2025. Though the name of the serial and this film are similar, there is no connection between them. Of course, as the name suggests both were about the sour relationships of the Mother in law and the Daughter in law, which finally end in the sweet way – as expected by the audience and provided by the producers !
Sas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi (1970) is a classic Bollywood family drama-comedy that delves into the eternal, generation-spanning conflicts between mothers-in-law (saas) and daughters-in-law (bahu). Produced and Directed by V. Madhusudan Rao and featuring music by R. D. Burman, the film serves as a lesson in how misunderstanding can fracture a home and how empathy ultimately rebuilds it.

“Paheli” (1977) is a Rajshri Pictures production meaning it had Tarachand Barjatya (10 May 1914 – 21 September 1992) as producer. The film was directed by Prashant Nanda; essentially a director of Odia films, who directed 3 Hindi films- ‘Paheli’ (1977), ‘Naiyya’ (1979) and ‘Grahasthi’ (audio of the film was released with the name ‘Kaise Karoon Singaar’ in 1983 & the film was called ‘Grahasthi’ in 1984, during release).
‘Paheli’ had Satyajeet, Namita Chandra (debutant), Poornima Jayram (debutant), Durga Khote, A.K. Hangal, Dina Pathak, Leela Mishra, Nitin Sethi, Abha Dhulia, and Arun Govil (also a debutant) and others in the cast. Neena Mahapatra & Anita Singh (also debutants) were also in the film.

Today’s song is the last and final song from a ‘ Middle of the road’ type of comedy film Safed Jhoot-1977.
The film, directed by one of my favourite directors- Basu Chaterjee, had music by a less known M.D.- Shyamal Mitra. The cast of the film included Ashok Kumar, Vinod Mehra, Mithu Mukherjee, Deven Verma, Vidya Sinha, Manik Dutt, Aroop Ganguly (son 0f Ashok Kumar), Pradeep Kumar as a Guest artist and Amol Palekar in a ” Friendly appearance”- whatever it means ! There were many Bengali actors in supporting roles. The producer (Ashim Kumar), Director and the Music Director too were Bengalis.
