This song came to my mind, right out of the blue. It must have been 30 years since I last heard this song. At first I thought it was a Kishore Kumar song. Then I felt this is the song from film ‘Souten’ which had many versions. I remembered the whole mukhda and tune still I did not realise that it was a Rafi song. Than I said rather than speculating what song is this ‘gham chhupaate raho muskuraate raho’ let us find it. So I found this song on youtube, both audio and video link. This turns out to be a duet of Rafi Saab and Asha Bhonsle.
It is composed by Asha Bhonsle’s son Hemant Bhonsle and lyricist is Nida Fazli. “Zindagi pyar ka geet hai, jise har dil ko gaana padega” is the song from ‘ Souten’, with which I was confusing this song.
The film is ‘Nazrana pyar ka’ (1980), starring Ashok Kumar, Raj Babbar, Sarika, Raj kiran, Vijyendra, Devan Verma, Aruna Irani, Shakti Kapoor, Neeta Mehta etc. One song from this film is already posted, this will be the second song. This is just a one line tune, with well written words, being sung by the stalwarts.
And true to expectation, the singers are making it an appealing and inspiring song. Rafi sahab with his sincerity adding emotion and feeling, where as Asha is husking her way into the song, taking over the remaining song. Much like what happening with “churaa liyaa hai tum ne jo dil ko ” in ‘Yaadon ki Baarat’ just as an example what two great singers can do with a song, sometimes try to out do each other, sometime without even trying.
But that is a famous song, where as this is a forgotten memory. So I am sharing a forgotten memory here with the readers.

Lovely song Nahm Ji. Never heard this song before. What is this with most of the youtube videos not working in india? :o. Would have liked to hear the longer audio version of the song :(.

this used be a favourite for us at all our ‘antaksharis’ during our high school days, & half way through the song it used to get transformed as “Gum Chipkate Raho”
thank you Nahmji for the song. it still comes on Vividh Bharati in ‘Sakhi Saheli” “Manchahe geet” etc.

one of my favourites composed by Hemant Bhosle and the film got my two other favourites Vijayendra Ghatge and Neeta Mehta.
Once upon a time,Bombay Vividh Bharthi station always play this song during its Bela Ke Phool programme.
