“Ek Phool Chaar Kaante” (1960) was a Parbat Films Production. It was produced by Hardeep Chatrath and Shyam Dhawan and directed by Bhappi Soni. The movie had Sunil Dutt, Waheeda Rehman, Johnny Walker, Dhumal, David Abraham, Krishan Dhawan, Rashid Khan, Bir Sakuja, Iqbal Singh, Tun Tun, Mumtaz Begum, Bela Bose, Radhika Sarathkumar, Sulochana Latkar, Reeta Roy, Madan Kenny, Kewal Kapoor, Mohan Choti etc in it.
As many as seven songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is ther eighth song from the movie. This song is sung by Lata and it is picturised as a “Jeep” song on Waheeda Rehman and Sunil Dutt. Shailendra is the lyricist and music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.
This picturisation may not meet the approval of traffic authorities that is for sure. While Sunil Dutt drives the jeep, Waheeda Rehman is seen precariously perched on the vehicle and blocking the view of the driver as well. The fact that it is a totally open vehicle with no doors or even sidewalls means that being seated in such a vehicle in itself was not very safe but no one in those days bothered. Midway through the song the vehicle gives trouble and Snil Dutt opens the hood to have a look. After that he lets Waheeda Rehman to sit on the driver’s seat and she drives away, leaving Sunil Dutt behind who then runs behind the vehicle. Subsequently Waheeda Rehman stops the vehicle, gets down and sings some more lines of the song. Then the two borad the vehicle again, with Waheeda Rehman in the driver’s seat. The vehicle moves ahead, at a crawling speed down some sharp curves.
