Lehron ke rele sang naiyya mori khele

A few days back, I had discussed hamri munder boley kaaga sakhi ri from the film BAABLA (1953) on this blog. But well before this song, I had come across another song ‘lehron ke rele sang naiya mori khele’ from the same film sung by Hridaynath Mangeshkar. The voice sounded girlish. My first reaction was that it must have been some mistake on the part of uploader of the audio clip to name him as a singer of this song. My doubt stemmed from the fact that Hridaynath Mangeshkar was born on October 27, 1937. At the time of recording this song, he must be around 15 years by which time the voice of a boy should have turned in to a boyish or a male voice. So I kept this song in the loop for some time until I made fairly sure that this song was really sung by him.
I checked all the available Hindi film songs’ websites and found that without any exception all of them had accredited this song to Hridaynath Mangeshkar. While searching on the websites, I also came across two more Hindi film songs sung by Hridaynath Mangeshkar – ‘ye duniya kaisi hai bhagwan’ in ‘Diwaana’ (1952) and ‘badlegi ye duniya ek din badlegi’ in ‘Sanskar’ (1952). In these songs also, his voice was girlish. It is quite possible that in his case, it took more time for his voice to mature into a boyish or male voice.
The film was produced under the banner of M P Production and directed by N B Agrami and Bibhuti Laha. The star cast included Master Niren, Manju Dey, Paresh Banerjee, Sova Sen, Pahadi Sanyal, Hiralal etc. The song is written by Sahir Ludhianvi and set to music by S D Burman. Only the audio clip of the song is available. The film’s story was stated to be revolving around Master Niren and I guess that this song is picturised on him. This lovely song reminds me of my childhood days when during rainy season, we used to play with paper boats by putting them in pools of water. There would be some exciting as well as tense moments as the rainy season breeze would make the paper boats to swing wildly putting them in danger of sinking. While a few would sink, some would survive to face another wave of breeze.
The tune of this song was an inspiration for ye tanhaayi haay re haay re from ‘Tere Ghar Ke Saamne’ (1963). In fact both these songs were based on S D Burman’s non-filmy Bengali song recorded in early 40s, the audio clip of which seems to have now vanished from YT.

When I heard the song I thought it was a female voice so there might be a mistake. But when I read the comment of shrirammoghe ji’s comment I understood the thing. Thanks shrirammoghe ji. It could be a boy’s voice

Pandit Hridaynath is a gem in the Mangeshkar family..genius really. The song marks his maturity even at the age of 15.
