Today (4 january 2014) is the 83rd birth anniversary of Nirupa Roy(4 january 1931- 13 october 2004). In the past, I, like many other movie wathers of my time associated her with the roles of hapless mother. Later on, I realised that she had played the roles of leading lady for nearly two decades before she began to play the roles of bhabhi and then maa in Hindi movies.
On the occasion of her birth anniversary, here is a song from “Mohini” (1957). The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it is picturised on a joyous Nirupa Roy who is waiting for her beloved to arrive from his expedition to far off places.
Raja Mehdi Ali Khan is the lyricist of this song. Music is composed by N Datta.
