This is an occasion that comes about 19-20 times in a year in this blog and we have seen 92 such occasions in the blog so far. With the previous post in the blog, we completed 9300th song in the blog. This is the first century in the blog this year.

We in this blog also celebrate another kind of century, namely century of songs by artists. We often combine these two kinds of centuries in the blog.

Regulars who had noticed the nature of songs being discusssed by me in the past few days may have noticed that I was discussing the songs of a certain artist with more enthusiasm that usual. And there was in fact one comment in the blog that enquired the reason behind “promoting” this artist. 🙂

The reason was simple. I was discussing the songs of that artist to make sure that she reached her century of songs in the blog in time for the 9300th song of the blog. Those who noticed the entries of “some stats” page, they will know who this artist is. Rajkumari has been on 99 songs for a few days now, and the wait was to combine her 100th song with the blog’s 9300th song.

I have no idea how many songs Rajkumari has sung in her playback career. She was one of the leading playback singers of 1940s and she also sang a few songs here and there in 1930s as well as during 1950s. Her singing output in 1960s and 1970s are negligible. My guesstimate is that she sang far less that 1000 songs in her career. Many of her songs, especially those sung in 1930s and 1940s are no longer available. and the total number of Rajkumari songs that are still available may not be much more than say 200 songs. I was in fact strugging to come up with Rajkumari songs to discuss during the past few weeks. Many of the Rajkumari songs that I discussed in the blog recently were not even available on YT before I decided to discuss them.

The 100th Rajkumari song in the blog was originally planned to be discussed by Sudhir ji, and he even shortlisted a few rare Rajkumari songs for this occasion. But he has become far too busy for the last few days. So I have decided to take up this writeup myself. I had shortlisted my own Rajkumari song for the occasion. The song that I have decided to discuss on this occasion is just as rare as the many other abovementioned songs. Only a truncated version of this song was available on YT before I decided to discuss this song. This song is from a movie called “Mehmaan”(1942). This movie was a Ranjit Production movie and it was directed by Chaturbhuj Doshi. The movie had Madhuri, Ishwar Lal, Shamim, Mubarak, Bhagwan Das, Rama Sukal etc in it.

D N Madhok is the lyricist. Music is composed by Khemchand Prakash.

Only the audio of this song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.

The originally planned writeup by Sudhir ji finally reached me and that post has now become the 9300th post of the blog and 100th song of Rajkumari in the blog. This post seeing the counter move ahead by one. 🙂

This musical bandwagon may have slowed down a bit of late (this century took 22 days to complete and the number of visitors have also reduced compared to the past) but the bandwagon is very much on the move and we are on course for many more targets. Much of the activity of the blog takes place behind the scene and I assure all that the result of all these behind the scene activities will also begin to be visible in the blog with passage of time.

I take this opportunity to thank all the visitors, regulars, contributors and well wishers for their valuable support and encouragement.

Song-Kya chain se baithhe hain bechain mujhe kar ke (Mehmaan)(1942) Singer-Rajkumari, Lyrics-D N Madhok, MD-Khemchand Prakash

Lyrics

kya chain se baithhe hain
bechain mujhe kar ke
kya chain se baithhe hain
bechain mujhe kar ke
qurbaan main ho jaaun
dekho jo nazar bhar ke
qurbaan main ho jaaun
dekho jo nazar bhar ke
kya chain se baithhe hain
bechain mujhe kar ke

pardon mein sambhaala hai
aisa meri ulfat ko
aa aa aa
pardon mein sambhaala hai
aisa meri ulfat ko
aa aa aa
ham aah bhi bharte hain
sach kehte hain dar dar ke
ham aah bhi bharte hain
sach kehte hain dar dar ke

ek haath jigar pe hai
ek dil ko sambhaale hai
ek haath jigar pe hai
ek dil ko sambhaale hai
aa aa aa
hum teri mohabbat mein
jeete bhi hain mar mar ke
hum teri mohabbat mein
jeete bhi hain mar mar ke
hum teri mohabbat mein
jeete bhi hain mar mar ke
hum teri mohabbat mein
jeete bhi hain mar mar ke
kya chain se baithhe hain
bechain mujhe kar ke
kya chain se baithhe hain
bechain mujhe kar ke

Foe some time since last few months, I was wondering why Rajkumari’s songs were coming one after the other on the blog !!! Now i know (became Buddha – one who knows)
Atul-ji, Thanks. You have given me immense pleasure by exposing me to so many of her rare songs. Now I am looking forward from you to start such ‘mohim’ for artists like Zohara, Indian Noorjehan, Khurseed, Parul Ghosh etc.
Hearty thanks.
