“Mausam” (1975) was produced by P Mallikarjuna Rao and directed by Gulzar for Sunandini Pictures. This movie was losely based on A J Cronin’s novel “The Judas Tree” (source-wikipedia). The movie had Sanjeev Kumar, Sharmila Tagore, Dina Pathak, C.S.Dubey, Om Shivpuri, T.P.Jain, Agha, Kamal Deep, Satyen Kappu, Lily Chakravarty, Pinchoo Kapoor, Mrinal Mukherjee, Shekhar Purohit, Yogendra, Nasir, R.Chopra, Mona Rajput, Baldev Mehta, Anwar, Chandu, Anand Pal, Ramnath etc in it.
Three songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the fourth song from this movie. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Gulzar is the lyricist. Music is composed by Madan Mohan.
The song is picturised on Sharmila Tagore, with Sanjeev Kumar, Agha and Nasir also visible in the picturisation.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.
Technically this should have been Prakashchandra’s 800th lyrics contribution, but he also sent the lyrics of the sad version of the title song of “Chalte Chalte” a few hours ago and that became his 800th lyrics contribution in the blog. I was hoping that nobody would notice and I would present this writeup as Prakashchandra’s 800th contribution. But “spoilsports” that Avinash Scrapwala and Pradip Raghunathan are, they noticed the fact and posted their congratulatory message, while I wanted a more “formal” way of congratulating him.:)
This post is our formal felicitation to Prakashchandra. Prakashchandra has become the first lyrics contributor to breach the 800 mark which is a mind boggling feat indeed. And let me remind all that it is only the tip of the iceberg. Lots more of his lyrics are lying pending in my inbox and it is my inability of handle them all that has slowed down his progress.
In addition to the sheer volume of his contribution, the quality of his lyrics also stand out. These songs are carefully picked songs and then he carries out detailed resaerch on these songs and their movies. In fact Prakashchandra sends lots of details with his contributions. Details about the movie, its makers and the artists form part of his contributions. His lyrics are properly colour coded. His earlier contribution that was discussed yesterday on the occasion of Deepaawali is a case in point. That song from “Amba”(1990), which was over seven minutes long, had five singers and three different kinds of chorus. So just imagine the volume of colour coding required for that song ! And then add the sheer effort in noting down the full lyrics of the song.
As mentioned earlier, lots of his contributions are still lying pending with me. But he is an extremely patient and understanding person, who understands my limitations. He sends me contributions for special occasions viz festivals, anniversaries of artists etc. Even if I am unable to post his contributions on those occasions, he keeps track of these pending songs and informs me whenever other occasions arise when those songs could be used. There have been occasions when I discussed Prakashchandra’s contributions three years after they were sent to me. 🙂
The fact that he does not take mind, nor does he get disheartened, shows his largeheartedness and compassion as well as his sheer love and determination for the cause of music.
While Pradeep Raghunathan awaits YIPPEE opportunities in the blog, it is Prakashchnadra who is allowing me create lots of those moments by sending me final lyrics from movies. In fact even this song is the final song from the movie.
I take this opportunity to congratulate Prakashchandra on breaching the 800 lyrics contribution mark and hope that he will continue to be one of the strong pillars of the blog.
And with this song, “Mausam” (1975) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

Prakashchandra ji,
Heartiest congratulations on crossing the mark of 800. And Thanks !
You are like a long distance runner and a mere 800 can not be your goal-this we know.
You will certainly cross many more centuries and a time will come when there are no songs for you to write lyrics of !
You certainly are a major pillar of this Blog. I wish you a non-stop success for future….
