‘Subhadra’ (1946) produced by Prafulla Pictures, Bombay and directed by Vinayak, is a mythological film with the star-cast consisting of Prem Adeeb, Shanta Apte, Meenakshi, Shantarin, Usha Mantri, Prabhakar, Majumdar, Ishwarlal, Yakub, Salvi, Jog, Daamu Anna Mavlankar, Nimbalkar and Lata Mangeshkar. Three lyricists, Pt. Indra, Pt. Sudarshan and Moti BA, had written the songs of this film, and the music was set by veteran Vasant Desai. It is a well-known fact that before becoming a full time playback singer, Lata acted in few Marathi and Hindi films for financial need to support her family.
According to HFGK, Lata had two solos and one duet with Shanta Apte, out of eight songs of this film. The duet ‘Main Khili Khili Phulwari’ is already covered on this Blog. The song presented today is one of the two solos.
Suman Chaurasiya ji (of Indore), the compiler of the book ‘Lata Samagra’ summarises the quality of her songs, aptly, in one sentence.

Sudhirji,
I had already prepared the article for ‘Sanwariya Oye’ as immidiately after posting ‘Piya aayega’ I checked and naturally at that time it was not in the list of already covered songs.
Thanks due to YOUR investigation, “Main baal baal bach gaya”
There may be a rule that ‘Three strikes and you are out’.
In such case mera kya hota ….

Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Dear all,
This song got posted in duplicate. It was already posted once, way back on 05 Jul 2011. It was an inadvertent mistake committed by yours truly. In the hurry to complete a post, I missed making the basic and very important check, whether the song is already posted.
After the song got posted the second time, Atul ji caught on to the error very quickly, as he was making updates to the ‘Songs by Movie Name’ page. We had an urgent email conference, and we came to agreement to let this post to stand. To preclude the situation that a song has been posted twice, we decided to change the song in this older post, and replace it with the other Lata solo song from the same film. That way, the stat counts will remain unchanged, and the duplicate situation would get addressed.
So I have proceeded ahead and made this change. The song in the older post is now replaced with the other Lata solo song from this film – “Saanwariya Oye Baansuriya Oye Bajaaye Gayo Re”. And in the process, I discovered for myself an absolutely wonderful gem of a song.

Same thing had happened in even my case and Atul ji had applied the same solution. i dont recollect the song involved, but I too learnt a lesson after that to double check before selecting a song for discussion.

It is as much the mistake of the person who is posting, in this case myself. More so, because we are closer to the data, and there are other things that we have to check, before we proceed with the publication.
