1971 colored social film ‘Ek Thi Reeta’ was produced by International Films, Bombay and was directed by Roop K Shorey. I am not repeating the star-cast as they were presented in all earlier six songs.
There were five lyricist, Sarshar Shailani (4), Prem Jalandhari (3), Vikal Saketi (1), Anjaan (1), Naksh Layalpuri (1) and one unknown writer for an English song. Music was by Jaidev, assisted by Gyan Varma.
Six songs out of eleven from the film are already discussed in this musical Blog and this one, sung by Asha is the seventh one, being presented. I still have two more songs by Asha, that will follow. (Hari Ichchha permitting) I am unable to trace the English song and one solo by Sarla Kapur. (Main to usi se karungi naina chaar) If some researcher Atulite find any of the two, even in audio format, I will try to complete all the songs (but Dilli door hai…).
Somehow, in mu opinion, today’s song does not have that typical Jaidev stamp and I have not been able to enjoy it as much as I should have. I would very much like to read other listener’s opinions.
Translation Notes (by Sudhir):
The lyrics in this song contain some lines and phrases that are a throwback on Punjabi. I am giving below a brief explanation of the same.

(The people in) this world are all crooks covertly, silently within their hearts.
‘chup chupeeti’ = covertly, clandestinely, secretly
utton hor te vichchon hor
They seem one thing visibily, on the surface; but are very different within.
‘utton’ = visibly, on the surface
‘vichchon’ = internally, on the inside
andar se hai duniya paapi, upar se aene keeta shor
All are sinners on the inside, but make of lot of noise (about righteousness, propriety) on the outside.

Bharatbhai,
If a philosophical song has to be fitted in a light-hearted mode probably due to the song situation in the film, the outcome would be out of sync with Jaidev’s style. I did get Jaidev stamp on Asha Bhosle’s short aalaap in the song.
And remember, Sachin Tendulkar did get out at zeroes when it was not his days.
