Hullo Atuldom
There is this gorgeous lady who made her debut into the Hindi film industry in a title role; the movie released on 28th September 1973. That film was commercially successful, went on to win five awards in that year’s Filmfare Awards. It helped the film’s producer- director come out of debts which he had incurred with his previous magnum-opus debacle. The content of this film was the typical Romeo-Juliet kind of romance, presented in a new style; but the commercial success was attributed to the two-fresh-faced-delightful youngsters who emoted on-screen with ease. Small wonder that they won that year’s Best Actor & Best Actress Filmfare awards.
Sudhirji has written this, in a post to a song of this film, about how the girl is presented on-screen for the first time:-
“a girl in a white frock with grey dots and a red piping – standing next to the entrance, near the golden statue of a maiden carrying a pot of water, quenching the thirst of many kinds; and the strains of music that play on that first sighting – “Jeena Yahaan Marna Yahaan, Is Ke Siwa Jaana Kahaan”. As always, the master of melodramatic presentation, RK chose this oh so appropriate music to play when this simple young girl made her first presence on the screen, and into the hearts of million young men – yes – Is Ke Siwa Jaana Kahaan. …“
This image of the girl is what made many youngsters go weak in the knees back-then, almost like the effect her husband had on a whole lot of young girls of the early 1970s. Am I right, Sudhir ji?
The husband was Rajesh Khanna.
Oh yes, the girl – Dimple Kapadia, was all of 14 or 15 when she began shooting for her debut film- ‘Bobby’. By the time the shoot wrapped up she was already married to The Phenomenon Rajesh Khanna, breaking the hearts of many young girls & guys in the process. She simply turned her back on the industry, quit acting, mothered two beautiful daughters before making a comeback to films. She may have had her personal reasons to separate from Rajesh Khanna, that is not our lookout here. Her fans just welcomed her back with open arms and then there has been no stopping this versatile actress who has been seen in a variety of roles, many of which were author backed. She has won the Filmfare awards a few times, in various categories. She was also awarded the Best Actress National award for ‘Rudaali’ (1993). She is still active & her films can be seen on various OTT platforms – the last one ‘Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo’ released on Disney/ Hotstar on 5th May 2023.
Yesterday, 8th June was her birthday- Here is wishing her all health and happiness (albeit belated)
For this occasion, I have chosen a song from the 1991 released ‘Ranbhoomi’ which was directed by Deepak Sareen & produced by Vijay Sinha. It was one of those regular, masaaledaar films, which had Shatrughan Sinha, Jeetendra, Rishi Kapoor, Neelam, Raza Murad, Shekhar Suman, Amita Nangia, Gulshan Grover, Parijat (never heard of her), Yunus Parvez, etc as Dimple’s co-actors. I must confess that I haven’t seen the whole film, only some parts, but I have seen a dance of Dimple’s as a kothewaali. That is the song we are going to see today. It is sung by Anuradha Paudwal written by Asad Bhopali, & Laxmi-Pyaare are the music directors.
I landed on this film in my quest to pay tribute to the lyricist Asad Bhopali, whose death anniversary it is today. ‘Ranbhoomi’ released almost a year after the passing of the lyricist. The song was for us to feast our eyes on the beautiful Dimple Kapadia
Asad Bhopali was born Asadullah Khan in Bhopal on July 10th, 1921 to Munshi Ahmad Khan. He was learned in Persian, Arabic, Urdu and English. AT 28 he moved to Mumbai to become a songwriter. That was the period of lyricists and songwriters of repute like DN Madhok, Prem Dhawan, Rajinder Krishan, Khumar Barabankavi, Jaan Nisar Akhtar etc. and Asad Bhopali managed to create an identity for himself.
Asad Bhopali has given songs which have been popular and can be heard on the radio & music systems regularly. Songs like “Wo Jab Yaad Aaye, Bahut Yaad Aaye“, “Kismat Bigadi Duniya Badli“, “Sau Baar Janam Lenge“, and the fun song in the late 1970s “Ram Dulaari Maike Gayi”. Today’s generation or those in their 30s currently will remember the songs of ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ (1989) which was among his last movies. Radio Ceylon, in its morning program today, played some of his popular songs.
Thanking Asad Bhopali for today’s song and numerous others that he wrote for movies since his debut in 1949.
PS-It has been pointed out by Prakashchandra that Asad Bhopali has penned a few songs of this movie, but the song under discussion is penned by Santosh Anand.

aaa aaa
kaahe mosey karey jora jori
beech bajariya mein
kaahe mosey karey jora jori
beech bajariya mein
kaahe mosey karey jora jori
beech bajariya mein
ambuwa ki daari
gaaye koyal kaari
ambuwa ki daari daari
gaaye koyal kaari
kar degi badnam saari nagariya mein
kaahe mosey karey jora jori
beech bajariya mein
kaahe mosey karey jora jori
jora jori
jora jori
beech bajariya mein
kaahe mosey karey jora jori
beech bajariya mein
koi kahe champa to koi chameli
koi kahe champa to koi chameli
itne deewaano ki chaahat akeli
roop ki rani hamaari nimaani
mere darwaje ki ye hai nishaani
saankal nahin hai kiwadiya mein
kaahe mosey karey jora jori
beech bajariya mein
kaahe mosey karey jora jori
jora jori
jora jori
beech bajariya mein
main to samajhti rupiye ki boli
ho main to samajhti rupiye ki boli
har ek samajhta main uski ho li
kya tu khareedega meri adaayen
deta rahega khud ko sazaayen
khud ko sazaayen
jee naa lagega naukariya mein
kaahe mosey karey jora jori
beech bajariya mein
kaahe mosey karey jora jori
jora jori
jora jori
beech bajariya mein

आssss आssss
