Hullo Atuldom
This post of mine is one of those where I love to combine two celebrities/artistes. The two, who are the central to today’s post, have a sizable amount of work to show for their long innings in the film industry. There are a lot of songs of the actress yet to be posted as also around 1574 out of 4846 of the singer. After a lot of rummaging I found something that is appropriate for today.
Then I went through our ‘List of songs – moviewise’ and found that the song is already posted. I had thought it would have been a unique song. What can be more hatke than a song where we have Kishore Kumar on-screen and Mohd. Rafi giving playback. There are many such songs which have Kishore Kumar lip-syncing to Rafi Saab’s voice and the blog has most of them. The song “Apni Aadat Hai Sabko Salaam Karna” from the film ‘Pyaar Deewaana’ (1972) was the song which I had thought was my great discovery.
So, I went through the whole process, all over again & reached another song which featured the actress who is celebrating her birthday today. She turns 76. We are wishing Mumtaz a very Happy Birthday. May she always look gracious, graceful, gorgeous & be healthy.
Mumtaz was the heroine in the 1971 release ‘Ladki Pasand Hai’ with Deepak Kumar for her hero in the film. Jeevan, Manmohan, Manorama, Tabassum, Rajendranath, Sajjan, Junior Mehmood, Uma Dutt, Jayshree T. etc were in the supporting cast. It was directed by CL Rawal, produced by BL Rawal and had lyrics by GL Rawal. Sonik-Omi were the music directors. Mohd. Rafi, Mukesh, Hemlata, Sulakshana Pandit, Usha Timothy, Mahendra Kapoor were the playback singers used. Lata Mangeshkar had only one song in this movie & that song is already on the blog.
The film had eight songs of which the following two are on the blog –

As can been seen from the above that the film made its debut on the blog in 2012 and the next song came after 10 years as part of the BTYC.
On hearing the song with the video I realized that it is one that used to be popular on Vividh Bharati. The style of the song reminds me of the 1971 song “Kaan Mein Jumka Chaal Mein Thumka“- don’t know why.
It must be very obvious to readers why I have searched and chosen a song in the voice of Mohd. Rafi Saab for this post.
July 31 is a date that no lover of Hindi Film Music will ever forget. That was the date in 1980 when the world of music lost the man with a silky voice. A voice that was used for a hundred emotions. A voice that used to be modulated to suit the character on-screen. Can we forget the ear-piercing “Yaahooo”; the maalishwala’s “Maalish Tel Maalish Champi” or the soulful alaaps before numerous songs. There are songs rendered by Rafisaab that will move the listener and make him/her emotional. I never feel like presenting a playlist of my personal favourite Mohd. Rafi-song for fear of leaving out a well-loved song or presenting a hyper-long list.
Today we are into the 43rd year without this much-loved voice. Miss you Mohd. Rafi Saab.
